UT vs FSU comparison

  • I was thinking this the other today after looking at FSU's schedule compared to ours. Both played NC State & Florida. We beat State & lost to Florida at home much like FSU. Their record was 10-2, but I say all of that to say this. If UT was in the ACC & ha the same schedule, I think we would have the same record. Anyone agree/disagree?

  • I dont think there's anyway we would have beaten Clemson, probably not VT (even tho they were down this year) and i think we would have had trouble with Miami and South Florida. Not saying they would have been losses, but our D was so terrible I dont know how we would have done.

    What I do know is that the FSU D is significantly better than ours and they allowed 17 points to USF, 20 to Miami, and 22 to VT...dont think we would have done nearly as well. I honestly think if we played their schedule we would have gone 8-4. But, we'll never know, so it really doesn't do us any good to think about it

  • Yeah, strongly disagree. Due to the quality of our defense this year, there is no team that we would be guaranteed to beat. Do you still remember the Troy game? Any team in the ACC could have beaten us that day... and we'd have gotten absolutely smoked by Clemson. And I think Duke would probably have beaten us in a shootout.

    Heck, seeing us play Georgia Tech could have been pretty funny in its own way. Makes me wish we'd have found one more win for a bowl game shot.

    Looking at their actual schedule...
    Murray State = W = 1-0
    Savannah State = W = 2-0
    Wake Forest = W = 3-0(1-0)
    Clemson = L = 3-1(1-1)
    at USF = W = 4-1(2-1)
    at NCSU = W = 5-1(3-1)
    BC = W = 6-1(4-1)
    at Miami = L = 6-2(4-2)
    Duke = L = 6-3(4-3)
    at VT = L = 6-4(4-4)
    at UMD = W = 7-4(5-4)
    UF = L = 7-5(5-4)

  • Definitely Agree with you about seeing us play GT. If UNC gave up 68 points....ugh. No telling how bad we'd be gashed. Look how many long runs we gave up to teams that didn't run a triple option b/c we couldn't hold contain.

  • Well, as far as Clemson goes we played South Carolina tougher than they did & our game was in Columbia. Second, we beat NC State who themselves finished with a decent record on the ACC. Third, given the fact that our offense scored more points against our SEC opponents (GA, FL, SC, Vandy) than their respective ACC opponents did, I don't think my hypothesis isn't far-fetched at all. Other than FSU I don't see another ACC defense stopping us.

    Nice break down. +1

    I would have to respectfully disagree with you on this breakdown. The only 2 losses I could see UT having would come from Clemson & of course Florida. Everywhere else is a W in my mind. Again, taking into consideration of who we played, the fact NC State had a decent record & we beat them, I could easily have seen us with a 10-2 record based on those factors.

    I would agree....10-2 or 9-3 at worse.
