  • Thanks for the exellent assessment but on the D-line there a bright spot not mentioned in O'brian and Stansberry. Both have redshirted. O'Brian has four more years and Stansberry three. Every one of the positions of need can be addressed in the 2014 but byfar the hardest is defensive tackle. I fully expect Carr to start in 2014 at DT next to O'Brian but only Sransberry offers significant backup playing time. Defensive Tackle is the hardest gem to find and you may notice they get committed very early each year by the top defensive units around. We must show significant progress in our overall defense this season to attract JC talent in this next class and maintain that improvement in order to get in on the best DTs of 2015. It takes a year or two for even the best DTs to develop as it does offensive linemen.

By the way Memphis, Mz Howard raised a good one too and he will make his presence felt as well if he stays at WR and I agree that QB is our one position that we could slack on but I think we will take one if we can get the best, We will add at least a couple of more WRs every year because all that show the talent will leave after three We will find several good O-linemen this next class. It;s the backup reps for the O-line that worry me going into '14.

agree with you clrst concerning how hard it is to find DT's and especially as you called them, gems. I figure all 5 of these need postions to be bolstered from Juco's. especially LB's and DT's. getting an already seasoned DT and LB that has 2-3 years to go is a must I think. LB shortage really looks bad.

  • I know Reeves-Maybin was a beast at rb in High school. Ryan, you think they'd consider giving him a look there? He's got some size and Lee is pretty small.

  • The problem with filling the needs is that next year when these players leave we will be filling significant holes in this team with true freshmen. That should not only be very enjoyable to watch (just kidding) but a drudging in the SEC East. Butch Jones mentions that recruiting is about relationships. What was there relationship with Von Bell's father like?

With our stacked OL, it is not surprising JuCo players weren't interested with limited playing time for their jr. year but this coming year should be very attractive for JuCos. I bet p.t. was why Kondolo became a husker.

    Good point.

I forgot about Pig. I sometimes think of him as a RB. I agree about the depth for the O- line. Unlike this past year, hopefully we have a wider margin of victory in those games we are supposed to win and get more 2nd team reps for the O-line!!

I doubt very seriously that any true freshman start at any position next year or the following year! Have to remember Dooley brought in several O-Lineman that have all red shirted and have 3 years of eligibility remaining and most were 3 or 4 star lineman so we should have starters taken care of. The freshman will likely fill out the two deep on the line in 2014, but there are several players that would be starting on other teams backing up our really good offensive line. Mack Crowder, Kyler Kerbyson, Alan Posey all have 3 years eligilibity I believe and Marcus Jackson still has 2. Add in the the TN added this recruiting class and 2014 should have no freshman starting. D-Line may be a little different depending on the players they recruit next year though I still believe unless that player is really spectacular a freshman will not start there either.

  • A lot of this year's class may find some playing time in '13 but I would be very surprised if any start. North and Harris have the best chance for much playing time this season. I doubt that either redshirts. We are building quite a WR pipekine and we have a very strong depth chart at that position. The best will only be here for three years anyway. We could very well develop into a major WR pipeline to the NFL. Now if we could do the same with the O and D lines, we will become the next Bama. Saban will not be at Bama more than another three years, if that. Study his history. Our next major recruiting opponent is already here and he resides in Columbus, Ohio. The Ole Ball Coach will retire in the next few years and Riecht will become a missionary within two years. We are among the new guard of SEC coaching. We may not have the top ten recruiting class we as fans want but we may have a class hat has true staying power and will become a very strong class as we look back a couple of years from now. Tell me how Kiffins top ten class here at UT turned out.

I think they might have some package stuff at best.....since he is such a talent but I doubt it. Having Neal, Lane, DYoung and Jabo(and others) should get the job done at RB.

JMO he will be playing catchup at SS bc of his injury/ surgery and missing a lot during spring practice and that should be his main focus being a true FR.
