"They would have beaten the teams they were supposed to beat and lost to the teams they weren’t supposed to beat, but they would have only been truly embarrassed by Alabama."
I agree with this, but my problem is with the toss-up games. We have yet to win a conference "toss-up" game. Somehow we can not find a way over that hump to win those games.
I think if UT wins out andplays in a descent bowl game that they will win (to go 8-5). Just becasue you lose to teams with a combined 36-5 record does not mean you are going to lose to an ACC team or a Big 10 team (or any other). You have to remember that the SEC is the best conference in college football history and is at the zenith of its power. Every year, the SEC champion is one of the greatest teams in college football history, and those near the championship are some of the best in history as well. Losing to those types of teams does not mean that ANY of the other teams in the top 25 would necessarilly beat you - particularly when your offense is capable of putting up 40 points or more at any time. That said -- I think UT needs to (and should) win out and win their bowl game. IF that happens, I think Dooley should definitely be back. This program is light years ahead of where it was when he took over.
