Vandy Fans Question

  • I am out of town on vacation with my family and was unable to make Saturday's game. I was wondering if Vandy fans were a little more cocky this year having Franklin?
I live in middle Tennessee and it seems they were very confident on call-in shows.
I like 104.5, but they just love it when Franklin calls in unannounced to talk!
I'm hoping Saturday will keep em quiet for a while! :-)

  • Not particularly. But I was really surprised how few there were in attendance. I hadn't forseen a blackout of the south endzone, but I had expected a stronger showing with the dores being favorites on the road only three hours from home. Franklin can talk about the culture change all he wants, but judging from their traveling turnout, "They're still Vandy"

    I'll hang up and listen.

  • I live in Nashville. I saw ONE car that was identifiable as the car of a Vandy fan on the entire trip there and back. It was driven by a single female, approximate age of 60.

  • They seemed to maybe have a very quiet confidence before the game, but it was not vocalized at all (most of the Vandy fans consisted of older women and families). After the game, they didn't seem too down or sad about the game, but I did run into a few of them on the strip that were bantering back and forth with a very....very drunk Vols fan. The Vandy fan said, "what bowl are ya'll going to !?". Drunkard Vols fan slurred, "NASHVILLE BABY !". Everyone said, "WHAT BOWL ARE YA'LL GOING TO !?"....it was comical.

No, but I did see them as well. This all happened closer to Neyland.

There used to be a semi-passel of them -- mostly sidewalk types around the Nashville metro area, and a handful of people who didn't mind admitting they liked Vandy because of how many white kids were on scholarship. They filled every seat of section A and AA to the top row in 1975 when I was a freshman and they beat UT in Neyland.

They worked hard to run everyone off, but they got it done.
