Versatile Vol King moved to H-back

Cameron Clear's dismissal cost UT a young, promising tight end prospect, so the Vols are hoping to turn a young, promising athlete into a young, promising tight end prospect.

Thanks for the update. +1 It looks like they now have more bodies to make adjustments with. I think this will be a beneficial move. King is an outstanding athlete.

  • I think King is just one of those guys you want on the field, can play several positions off. or def. Got a steal in him IMO have heard nothing but good things about him from the coaches since he signed and he looks to be in great shape.

  • Great update Wes, thanks. With the QB experience, King will certainly give some more options on offense. Hope this move turns out great. GO VOLS!

  • If one of our TEs goes down to injury and we are trying to run the ball and use a TE... with the lack of depth is there any possibility of putting say bullard in at Tackle and putting Richardson in the TE position for an extra blocker if Ben is not big enough to do that? Or do most think Ben will be fine blocking in that case and TN would just run a diff play that did not require a big blocking TE on short yardage situations etc? I like our two guys but at this point it makes me nervous... TE can get hurt often and depth would be an issue

Good question. i would think Bart would be ok blocking in the middle or kicking out but blocking from a traditional TE position could be a real challenge for him.

  • I always wondered why more teams did not do that anyway.

  • Yeah I would also think he would need some motion and a running collision as he would not be able to move a man from a head up position because of his lack of size. But that is the good thing about the H-back. They usually go in motion to kick out or come from the outside in on a lead on the backer

  • Just change the roster. Put him down as our fourth scholarship QB. Let's practice some run/throw option.

  • This is a very curious move. I'm trying to figure out what it says about King and Fugate.

Fugate is a FB/H-Back that moved to LB and King is a LB that is moving to FB/H-Back.

Is the implication that Fugate is a better LB than King...or that King is a better HBack than Fugate?

Unless Fugate is just blowing Sal away at LB it seems strange that we would just move Fugate back to the offense.

And, by the way, I don't think I have heard one word about Fugate in camp good or bad.

I think the answer is in your last sentence. For whatever reason, Fugate has become a non-entity at this point. The other point is that Fugate wanted the move but the King move is the coaches trying to get a talented player with a good attitude on the field. JMO
