Steckenrider tagged out at third after Fritts got caught too far off first on a snap throw from the catcher.
Vols 2, NIU 0, heading to the top of the 2nd.

Steckenrider was smoother in the top of the second.
Pop out to first, walk, strikeout looking, strikeout swinging.
Nice response to the walk.

Luther got on with an infield single to start the bottom of the third but was thrown out on a delayed steal. Something looked odd there.
Maddox flied out to CF, Osborne grounded out to 2B.
Vols 2, NIU 0, headed to the top of the 4th.
This will be Steckenrider's last inning, but he can still get the win. Doesn't have to go 5. Designated split game from the start. Many teams do that early in the season.

Steckenrider popped out in foul territory to the first baseman, Fritts looked at strike 3 — a fastball on the outside corner — and Pierce struck out swinging on a breaking ball in the dirt.

Vols add a run in the 5th.
Catcher Wes Walker singled to RF with one out and scored on right fielder Jared Allen's double into the RCF gap.
Allen thrown out going for 3rd. Remember, Serrano said the Vols will be ULTRA aggressive on the bases this season, and that was example No. 1. Most coaches might not have sent Allen there.
Luther then flied out to RF to end the inning.

Steckenrider nearly hit another HR there, but again came up short. Smacked that one off the top of the wall in LCF.
Osborne walked before that, so Vols have runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.
NIU meeting at the mound.
