Vols Recruiting Ranking

  • I noticed that on the main page of the "247" site, Vanderbilt is listed as 18th nationally, while our Vols are listed as 20th. Upon clicking the individual teams, the order is reversed in both the "247" rank and the composite rank. Vanderbilt being 20th, while our Vols are 18th. Which is correct?

I just looked at the rankings on the mobile site, and it shows Vanderbilt 18th in both the 247Sports rankings and the 247Composite, while UT is 20th in both. I have no reason to believe those rankings are wrong. Not sure why it would be showing up differently on team pages.

  • Vandy just got a new commitment today

  • Would be alarmed if there wasn't around six months until NSD. The top tier Vandy commits will come to their senses, will be lured away to better programs just like last year's class.

"The one that Tennessee always does is kick the sh1t out of Vanderbilt." Let that marinate and crawl back to your high school stadium.

It's happened before and it will end the same way.

I am concerned and I do not approve of the "we always beat you" mentality. We always beat Bama for a while there. Things change. Franklin is responsible for some ace recruiting these last couple years. I hope the team I support is doing what it can to remain the victors.

I think you're misinterpreting confusion as nervousness. It's just hard to understand why someone would voluntarily choose to play football at Vandy. Jimmy acts like you guys did something great last year. You were favored in 8 games...you won 6. You were underdogs in 5 games...you won 0. Seems like more of the same to me. High school stadium, high school facilities, used car salesman as coach. Having said that, good luck this year.

After an early splash his 2012 class ranked 29th. In 2011 they did not show up in the top 50. Not much foundation there and my guess is when NSD is done it will be the same.

Ace recruiting? Maybe by Vandy standards but Franklin nor Vandy concern me.

Exactly (+1). August team recruiting rankings are just about as useful as the preseason top 25 rankings.

Not nervous. You are a very funny guy!. We realize that 18th is probably the best that the world has to offer the Coma Doors. That rating will most surely fall as signing day gets closer. Our ranking, on the other hand, will most likely rise several notches.
Regardless, we will once again prove to be the better team this year.

  • I think Franklin has been able to excite many recruits about Vandy. While I am a UT fan, I always joke than I can pay for my children to go to many schools (UT included) but not many others - like Vandy, Northwestern, Duke, etc. So if I was a parent of a top recruit (one that was smart), I would listen to Vandy too. That alone may prove interesting to many prospects. However, I think it will come down to what happens on the field this Fall. Does UT do as it needs to do to re-establish itself as a top-tier team in the SEC. If so, we will be more than fine. At the same time, does Vandy struggle and that take away some shine, or do they over-achieve which could also be dangerous as Franklin could leave (though I actually think he is determined to make something of Vandy there unless he has a dream job elsewhere...maybe Maryland where he should be the coach anyway...and where the current coach is not popular). In fact, Vandy is in a bit of a Catch 22 to some extent for that very reason. At this point, we have so much more to worry about and enjoy other than August "commitments."

  • Sounds to me like Vandy fans are equating preliminary recruiting rankings for next year's class with the teams on the field this year. News flash: none of those recruits can help you until next year (assuming they don't go elsewhere in February). Franklin likes to talk trash and ogle the wives and girlfriends of his coaching staff, but he hasn't made a significant impact in the SEC yet.

What's there to be nervous about? Several of those recruits will wind up elsewhere, Franklin will say they're not "men of honor" once again, and UT will have the higher rated recruiting class (as usual) come NSD.

  • VU's new "anchor down" slogan is kind of dumb. With the anchor down the ship goes nowhere.

Under team rankings we are 20th and lists us as having two 4* and under UT commits we are 18th with three 4*.
