Vols host five-star Henry again

Just three weeks after visiting Tennessee for the first time, five-star athlete Derrick Henry returned to Knoxville over the weekend to attend the Vols' spring game.

  • “I’m still solid to Georgia, but Tennessee’s right next to them,” said Henry, who’s being recruited by the Vols as a running back. “I’m just going to come up here some more and see how everything turns out.”

Dawg fans are right, he's a lock lol

  • I think these kids commit early to a school to lock in a spot. Then they always have something to fall back on. Was in Jacksonville yesterday and the cab driver taking us to the airport was from Yulee and knows Henry. Said he was a really good kid. I told him to put a good word in for the Vols. He said Henry really likes UT. Only time will tell. Winning 9 games sure would help.

  • A commitment doesn't mean a lot to a lot of these kids anymore. He keeps saying he is a DAWG, but his other statements make you wonder just a bit. He would be nice to have, but he might be seriously looking at the depth chart at UGA, and having trouble seeing where he fits in the team of RB's UGA has right now.

  • Is UGa recruiting him as a RB or LB? Does he have a strong preference either way?

  • Georgia is recruiting him as a runningback, and that is what he wants to be.

  • Like the story, way too early for me to worry. You recrutingic’s (made that up alcoholic about recruiting) will have to worry for me.

  • I really like this guy. I don't typically get excited about recruits this early because so much can change, but this guy could really fill a need for us. If we don't get him, it's not the end of the world (we're in on some other great backs). But boy he'd be nice to have.

We're doing a great job with him so far. I really think our recruiting staff is great - if we start winning consistently again this year, I think our recruiting will really take off.

I could easily see this as being the case. Henry would probably have a better shot at early PT at UT. That's a big consideration for players of his caliber. Would be a great get for UT or UGA, but hopefully he chooses to be a VFL.

  • No matter who a kid commits to you have to continue recruiting them right up until NSD and sometimes even that doesn't matter. Georgia is loaded at RB with young talent I can understand him wanting to look around for some place he could play earlier.

  • Would be huge for our new staff to show that they can recruit at a high level and reel in 5 star recruits. Would really like to see us get Mckenzie Alexander back on board as well. Can't even recall the last time we had more than one 5 star recruit in a class.

Agree. The best way to do that is to WIN! and prove that UT is on it's way back. The best players usually want to play for the best teams.

  • I believe a strong 9 win season would bring alot of talent to the Hill. Key wins for us in the 2012 season would be against Florida(home), Georgia(away), and USC(away). To win 2 out of the 3 or get all 3 would put UT in the top 10 standings in the AP & Coaches polls and would boost our ability to recruit elite players. This is a critical season for many reasons and I believe CDD did a great job nabbing the best coaches for the job(ie: CSS). Go Vols!!!

  • Get him coach Graham

    dogg

  • Good read, Ryan. I do have a question, though- did he bring any of his teammates with him? Also, outside of Riles and Ramsey, who else attended the O&W game? TIA.

As far as his commitment to UGA goes, I don't see him going anywhere. He's been one of our biggest recruiters, not to mention two of his close friends are also in the class (Bryce Ramsey and Trammel Terry) and he's one of the reasons Terry re-committed. Don't think that UGA's depth is going to be a big detourant, either- if you're a competitor, you're not afraid of competition.

  • I think he will too but he sure has been talking about ut alot a friend of mine that lives 20 min away from him says that he talks about ut a lot

    UTBdub

  • Honestly, why would he be posting pictures of himself at UT and praising Tennessee on his twitter account if he was recruiting for UGA? He's already named Tennessee as the close #2. I doubt that a 17 year old kid that is months from signing with a school is spending his free time during the school year traveling hours away just to talk to other recruits about UGA.

we already went through this in another thread that got locked, and i must admit i got caught up in the non sense too, but lets keep this in perspective. The fact that he is continuing to look at the vols is a good thing, and if he doesnt switch to us it wont be the end of the world. I am just glad a kid of this caliber likes what he sees. that means that we are on the right track again and sooner than later we will start getting these guys again like we used too. volstennesseekoolaid
