So hypothetically, if the vols get to sign this guy and have 2 spots left for this class, will they be able to roll over the 2 spots in next years numbers? This has always confused me.

They would be able to back count two early enrolees.

  • Florida, Georgia and Alabama all have a higher academic standard than UT . We ran into this with our daughter when she was deciding what school she would run for . Georgia's entrance GPA was higher than UT's . I think the overall Academics of the schools are even although some would argue that.

Theoretically, it would allow you to backcount 2 and sign up to 27, I think. But next year is the year that we'll finally get back to a full roster of 85 and that number is likely to the be controlling factor.

I think we're just a few shy of it now and only have maybe 12-ish scholarship seniors, so there would have to be significant attrition (incl leaving early) for the 2 theoretical backcounts from this year to matter.

  • This is ridiculous. You don't do this to a kid wanting to go to your university since 2011. This is not professional football. This is a kid's livelihood, his education, his dreams .... he just graduated from highschool for God's sake.

The coaching staff at UF need sober up and do the right thing. God bless any school that admits this kid. This is not about football anymore. This is about a kid wanting a chance to go to college and play college football.

I don't care how tall, how big or how fast he is. He just graduated from highschool.

What were you like coming out of highschool?????

  • I agree. It's sad that he worked hard to get all of the big time offers he did, only to get spurned by admissions. By that point, all of his other choices had no room left. Phillips ends up being the one holding the bag while the Gators continue business as usual. Sad.

If a university has set standards for admissions you have to be prepared and take the right classes to get accepted. If they don't do this schools would just take everybody and then were would the schools academic standards be.

Even the conferences have standards in place for the schools that are in them. I agree that it's heart breaking for a young man to get turned away from his school of choice, but that's life and it happens all the time. UT has turned kids away for academic reasons in the past and probably will do so in the future.

The coaches can't override the admissions department, and it was Admissions who denied him entry into the University. The football coaches had no option but to pull the offer once he was denied admission to UF.
