SPOT ON. Tennessee fans will have to accept 2013 will be tough, no matter who's wearing the headset on Saturdays: Away to Oregon and Florida in weeks 3 and 4 and a SEC gauntlet from Oct. 5 - Nov. 30.
If Petrino, Tuberville, Jones or any other candidate comes to Knoxville and goes 4-8 next season, will the sky be falling then, too?

The situation we are in right now is one of the big reasons I was a Dooley supporter. (until the Vandy game at least) The big question before Dooley was fired was, "who's can UT get that is better?" IMO we should have had a coach (or 2 or 3) lined up and ready to go before we let Dooley go.
Dooley (before Missouri and Vandy) had only lost to very good SEC teams. It also looked like the main problem was with the new 3-4 defense (which IMO needed another year or two to mature). Also, the offense was better than it has been for many years.
The problem now is that UT may not be in a better situation than it was and may very well be in a worse situation. The result is a $5 million golden parachute for Dooley, robbing academics of $15 million & massive payouts for the assistants in an already difficult financial situtation. All to start over with a guy who may not be any better than Dooley. Now we have to give a new guy another 3 year to get his recruits in and see if he can beat the SEC teams that are consistantly in the top 10. I'm generally optimistic in nature, but I just don't see this situation getting better for many years.
It looks like to get anyone who isn't a "diamond in the rough," UT is going to have to offer a record breaking contract which would make the new coach by far the highest paid coach in the nation. (assuming that UT even has that ability) (assuming that there is anyone even worthy of a record breaking contract)

The problem is that you guys keep thinking TN is a premier program. Get over it!!! At best you are the sixth best program in the SEC. TN would get rolled in the big east. The arrogance that this search started and continues with just blows me away. Hey I hear there is a Kiffiin going to be looking for a job in a couple weeks!!! Lol. UNC is three times the college town and school UT is even on probation and Strong woke up and said what the hell was I thinking. If you had any sense you would have hired Petrino in week one. Absolutely the best coach on the board from the beginning. Sure he cheated on his wife but one winning season and that is all forgotten and the recruiting gates open. What a bunch of foolish people to think you are so much better than everyone else. If you work hard you might find a coach before Northern Illinois does.

you my friend are not very educated on this subject we are historically a top 3 SEC program. 5 years does not change that! Our facilities are still one of the very best in the country! I know we have been down, but to say we are 6th best job in SEC get out of here with that bro! Florida, Georgia, Alabama, LSU are the only jobs that you could say are better than ours. heck even dooley was able to out recruit south carolina once or twice. south carolina has only been good maybe 5 years out of the entire schools history lol! we are no longer a top 10 job in the country as we use to be but we are still top 20 and we would have been at least 8-4 in the big east bro! big east is terrible!

Really?
Charlie Strong would take the South Carolina job if offered right now.
He slapped ya'll in the face by sticking with Louisville.
Let that sink in.
South Carolina, when the HC position opens up, is a much more desirable job than Tennessee.
BTW how'd those "better recruiting classes" work out for ya'll. Atleast 5 years before ya'll are relevant again. At which point High School kids will not have known the last time Tennessee was relevant.
