  • Look at it like this guys......Butch is our coach.....we've gotta be all in on him from now on, (or until he gives us a reason not to be). That being said i'm excited to see what we can make out of the rest of this recruiting class, and if we can possibly grab a couple four stars/five stars that still remain unsigned.

I'm excited to have a coach that WANTS TO BE A VOLUNTEER!!!!!! GBO VFL.......Welcom Butch Jones may the football gods smile good fortune upon you.

  • Dang. Pittman was the best coach on the staff. I can't imagine whoever he is bringing in being any better than Pittman. I think that is a huge mistake.

I'm pretty sure if you turn around in a circle while saying his name three times then turn off the lights and look in the bathroom mirror he'll appear and refuse to coach...whatever it is that you want him to coach...

  • The OL coach is so important because they have to know how to teach the scheme...you dont want to have to teach the coach how to teach the system, it will allow for a quicker understanding of how to block it. Not worriwd if james bolts...first off it'd be a mistake by him but we have some good young guys who will have several years in the system...

As I was looking thru the posts on Pittman, I wa thinking the same thing. Been with CBJ a long time and that is a good thing.

absolutely concur. Pittman is a top recruiter and an elite O line coach. Makes no sense not to retain him.. Hope this decision doesn't come back to haunt us.

  • Pitman needs to stay , guy is one heck of a coach and a great recruiter as well

  • Guys, remember that CBJ runs a very different type of offense, especially from the OL standpoint, with wider splits on most every play than we've every had. If his system teaches different techniques than Pittman is accustomed to teaching, apart from the fundamentals, then it's sad, but it makes perfect sense for Butch to bring his guy in, not just from a loyalty standpoint, but also from a system continuity standpoint. He's an offensive-trained coach who runs his own system, and he probably doesn't trust an OL coach to teach it who's not familiar with it.

And to me, because TE is a harder position to learn than any of the WR positions (you have to learn both the OL and WR stuff as a TE), it might make more sense to give Tee the WR and move his WR coach from Cincy, if he brings him, to TEs. Then pay Tee a bundle, make him recruiting coord. or asst. or assoc. HC and see if you can land him.

I hate it about Pittman and maybe losing Juwan, but it makes sense to me, despite how great a job he did last year.

I like what the players say about Pittman, but our run blocking went from the worst in the country to just average this year under Pittman with 4 three year starters and future NFL'er Richardson. I didn't really see many big holes against the good SEC competition. To my knowledge, he hasn't recruited UT any nationally sought after linemen (Sanders committed to Dooley before Pittman was even here) and the CAK lineman was a borderline recruit (I really wish him the best at UT, but he wasn't really offered by anyone else big was he?).

I think he has good rapport with his lineman, but I think his coaching is average at best and I'm going to trust coach Jones on this.

Damn.. I was hoping Pittman too.

He deserves to stay. Be a shame if he is let go. He did a great job turning the line around and if the Jones can't see that I have a hard time with it.

which is probably why you don't bring in a guy to revamp an offensive system that was one of the best in school history..

sorry..I'm REALLY trying to bite my tongue on this hire, dober, now that's its done, but its going to take some time.. I'll get there.

I think it's pretty clear that he's gonna go in another direction.

Seems like Cincinnati OL coach Don Mahoney could be the guy — but I don't know that for sure. It's just been running rampant around the rumor mill.

What a shame! Pittman did such a great job and the fact that he wants to be here makes it worse!

  • where is he going to find a line coach better than pittman. i understand different coaches have other position coaches they want to work with but it's easy to see how solid pittman is. good gracious, look at how much the line has improved. hope he can stay.

I'm not sure I would call 160 yds a game and 4.7 yds per attempt "average".. But given where we were, Pittman did an amazing job with just one year with the guys. And don't forget the pass blocking..we were close to the top in terms of fewest sacks allowed. What's more is the players in the trenches love the guy. You have to find a way to keep him, imho, irrespective of the scheme..
