Vols staff thrilled with new TE duo

The analysts at 247Sports rated both UT tight end signees as three-star talents. Some sites have them ranked lower than that. UT’s coaching staff thinks that’s hilarious.

  • I'm pumped about these kids if they are as athletic as Elder thinks. Having athletic TEs in any offense creates match-up nightmares for defenses. Just look at some of the best ones in the NFL - Gronk, Vernon Davis, Jimmy Graham, and of course our very own VFL Jason Witten. These guys all create a different dynamic in their offenses that allow each offense to be explosive.

I hope they come ready to play along with Brendan Downs and Justin Meredith. I think with our new WRs we'll be breaking in it'll be essential to get quality production from our TEs!

  • Great read, I can't wait to see the product on the field.

    Go Vols!

  • I know we finished 10th or so in the SEC but we got some really good football players IMO. Some of our 3* guy's were really close to being 4s and we only signed 21, if we sign 27 we probobaly move up a couple spots but next year we should be in the 30 range.

  • Good stuff. I didn't appreciate Branisel's possible athleticism. Hope the coaches are spot on with these 2 players.

  • I am a huge fan of the TE position. A really good TE is nearly impossible to defend because most of the time a LB is covering and I have not see a LB that can cover a TE. And if a team has two quality TE's its a defensive nightmare, look at NE patriots when both of their TE's are healthy and in the game, nearly unstoppable.

  • I love the fact, if true, our coaches had no idea how many stars these guys have. I enjoy following the whole star system, and appreciate the work evaluators do. But I am thankful we have coaches who make their own assessments and go get the guys they believe can play.

It's all about creating mismatches and it looks like these guys have the size, speed and ability to get it done. Should be two easy targets for our young QBs.

TEs are can be very annoying for a defense with all the opportunities to be a zone buster with the dink and dunk for 5 to 7 yard gains, keeping the chains moving.

Accidental down vote. Sorry. Can someone help ncvolsalum out for me? Usually I get the "confirm" button, but not this time.

  • I personally hate the star system. I think it's a load of bull to be honest. It's soo overrated sometimes bc as u can see in several articles how those 5 star guys rarely end up being as great as they were believed to be. I love it!! Quinn seems to come from a family of stars and athletes and that says alot!! I'd love to throw to a 6'6 guy in the red zone!!!! I got a good feeling about our underrated class this yr!!! No joke! Lets go vols!!! And CBJ!!!!

Gotha both 1stgame. The one think I didn't like and think will hurt Bray at the next level if he don't start doing is looking for the TE & RB. So many drives ended this year because he would not check down to the TE instead waiting to long for the big play and having to chunk it out of bounds, Rivera was open 95% of the time because defenses were focused on CP & JH he should have had the most receptions on the team.

I agree. Bray won't last man. He's too much of a fool. Got talent but has wasted it.

  • Great stuff about these TE's. Hope it's as good as advertised. These coaches deserve the vacation before ramping up for spring ball. Vols!!

As vols4life1969 said, Tennessee can sign up to 29 in the 2014 class, as things stand right now. For each player UT adds to the 2013 class in the coming weeks, you can subtract one from that number.

Do you think we add another OL or DL Ryan or is this class pretty much done, from your comment I think there may be something in the works. I was just makeing the point that we finished in the top 25 and only signed 21 kid's Miss.St. Arkansas and Nebraska for example signed 1 or 2 more kids than us and finished ahead of us in team rankings but our average per recruit was higher. I know the 85 total plays a big part in the overall scheme, I was just going on the 27 we could have signed this year plus the 4 we were short of 25 this year it's a CRAZY game this NCAA. TANKS FOR ALL THE HARD WORK GO TO DISNEY WORLD WITH CJG YOU DESERVE IT.

  • Guys, crazy question but how big are Quinn's hands? They look giant on film...

    Manndingo

  • Quinn is the commit I am most intrigued by. If he pans out over the next 2 years with so little football background and so little time to develop at this level, I am really going to be impressed by this staff's ability to evaluate talent that others are missing out on. I'm hoping he turns out to be a great find and already have him matched up with "Vanderbiltburg" in my mind to measure their careers for the next 2 years.
