One of my favorite players. Glad he has bounced back from this. If I could say anything to Daniel it would be that you've got alot friends you've never met.

What a horrible thing for anyone to go through, even more so for a college kid. I just can't imagine that. So glad that he's got support to help him through this. Great read, Wes.

Wes I want to thank you for one of the best articles I have ever read from you. I think Dan Hood should also be commended for the courage it took to tell this story. I lost my own mother back in 2007 to Cancer, and it still bothers me to talk about it to this day. I cannot imagine talking about it if she had died in such a horrible way. I hope to goodness, not for the fans and the university, but for this group of players, I hope they win this game. These guys have gone through one of the darkest periods in TN sports history. Go out tomorrow guys and beat the Dators. I don't care if they win by 1 or 100, just win. GBO!

If this story doesn't bring tears to your eyes like you got the first time you watched "Brian's Song" something is wrong with you. Great story about how a team and a coach are willing to pick up one of their own.

Great story and a good kid. The words he used hit home for me. I lost my Mom August 6th, I know the darkness he speaks of...the pain never seems to go away.

Well I nearly ran out of upvotes with this one. Well done Wes, Daniel seems like what every parent hopes their kids grows up to be. I pretty much had tears streaming reading this. I hope he has a bright future, to make it though something like that is remarkable. I know a similar sense of loss, so I can only imagine his.

Fantastic read Wes. There's nothing I love more than someone overcoming tragedy. That's a winner. Daniel Hood is a bigger man than most could ever hope to be. Now he and his brothers are ready to take it to the next level. God Bless this young man.
