WKR (Wes,Kevin & Ryan)....on Worley holding the FG snaps.....

I know the holder job has traditionally been a spot for QBs (even starters) or another kicker dating way back prior to Joe Theisman for the Redskins. I think Bart Starr Starr and Johnny Unitas also held at times.
My question is do you like having a QB hold? The reason I ask is.....
1. Its now about the limitied practice time and usually the kickers practice by themselves unless pulled in during the special teams turn to run snaps in front of the squad.
2. Surely Worley does not have better hands than a WR who I have always thought this should go to that may have played a bit of QB in H.S. or ran the ball out of gun like many think Pig Howard will do for us.
I know this is a little thing now but Tony Romo showed us all why this can be a HUGE deal especially if Worley is our starter next season and has his plate full in terms of practice time to be spared....plus this means if he does not hold next year we have to change to a 3rd holder in 3 years for Palardy and that could have been avoided by making a different choice now.

Some good points. Wouldn't mind to see that, but certainly understand why they use the QB. Not a fan at all of using the starting QB. Would greatly prefer a 3rd string (especially now that we have 3 solid guys on the squad). Also lets you focus more practice time on fakes without taking away from the general offense. If a QB (or wide receiver/rb who can also throw) only has to be spot on on a few plays, they don't necessarily have to be an SEC caliber QB. A Nash Nance could have played that role well, I think.

Nash Nance would have been perfect. We can't use Peterman this year unless we burn his RS. I am sure its bc a QB is use to doing it in HS and use to making the signal calls....plus if you run a fake half the time you are throwing it. That is why IMO it should be a WR that has played some in the gun in HS and maybe for us like Pig might do or Gerald Jones did.

Also if a QB holds it gives you better options if the play breaks down. Its not a hard catch to make but they should have decent hands to do it. QBs do play alot of catch.

Agree.......a former dual QB or now WR/Wild Pig seems like a good way to go. If you have one on your team that can really run and pass then you really have a secondary threat.
Would't be bad if they were the same year or close to your FG kicker too.

I think sometimes punters hold for kicks, too. Keeps the special teams guys together a bit, and it's not like a guy can just punt for two hours every day, right.

I like the back-up QB holding because of the need to spin the ball to et the laces right. I believe the QB does this naturally, while a WR usually just takes the snap and runs, so laces aren't a consideration. Don't you remember from Ace Ventura what happens when you don't hold the laces out?!?!

tennnessee has used the back up kicker to hold the past few years (Chip Rhome)

I like a guy that can practice it the most unless you have a talented dual purpose player that can add a threat if things break down or you need to fake it.
Just not sure on the added practice time and also what happens if he is our starter next year....a 3rd change in 3 years I am sure.

A quarterback is also more equipped and able to carry out a fake kick as well. Who would you rather have running an actual play that is likely to lead to a pass from the holder, a QB or a WR/Kicker?

I will agree with you to a point......I just think on FG breakdowns or fakes you need someone that can be elusive and then make a play either by running or passing......thats why I will lean toward a Pig Howard or Gerald Jones type.

When your FG kicking is as bad as ours, does it really matter who the holder is?
Seriously, fake FG's are more about surprise than anything else. If you have a punter as holder, it has a bigger element of surprise than if you use a QB or WR as the holder.
