W/R/K Oregon Game Next Year

  • Looking at our schedule for next season it is obviously very tough. How much money would it cost Dave Hart to buy out the Oregon game? IMO that makes great business sense because adding an easier winnable game gives this team time to gel and the distinct possibility of going to Florida next year 3-0 and brimming with confidence.

We are the University of Tennessee! We don't run and hide from anyone and we should go up there preparing for a fight. We might get our butts handed to us but we don't ever run from a fight!

100% agree with this. It is a great opportunity for this program. You never know what can happen either. Oregon loses Kenjon Barner FWIW

    That's a Dooley/Hamilton move, not a Jones/Hart move...

  • I respect what both y'all said but I was at Neyland for the hurricane that forced the evacuation and then witnessed the hurricane that was Oregons offense from the 2nd quarter onward. I was pissed when we bought out the UNC game last year but we haven't beaten Florida in 8 years. We have a chance to swallow some pride and get to 3 wins and build confidence before going down there to shock them. JMO but I think this makes perfect sense and we play Oregon in future when we matchup better at one of the early season neutral site games.
But I respect where both of y'all are coming from

    Unless it's UNC.

That's fair to say but I don't want to see us go get destroyed when we could be building for a successful campaign in the SEC. But I think focusing on Oregon all summer we might have a chance

Don't buy it out. They are most likely looking at a coaching change. I think Chip Kelly will be an NFL coach next year and most likely in San Diego.

Not to mention, Chip Kelly likely bolts to the NFL.

If he bolts our chances go up exponentially

Completely agree. I think the players (and recruits) like these games. As a fan, these are the games I want to see. There are not that many games during the seasons, and I don't want to watch a gimme practice game.

  • The UF game has always been a mental failure the past few years.... It's not going to matter what Tennessee's record is going into that game until the right coach gets the mental block out of the whole UF/UT game....

I have a feeling Jones won't have a mental block heading into that game or even the Alabama game. He seems like the type of coach that goes into every game thinking his team can win.

I see it the opposite. We really gain by playing Oregon whether we win or lose. If we win then we really have the confidence going into Florida, but if Oregon beats us then we get a better idea of how good we really are, and where we need to focus our attention heading into SEC play. I hope we never run scared from a big game again!

I agree with you there. The Oregon game would be a good barometer and we would already have experience on the road before Florida. I also think it could help reestablish us in recruiting out West. We used to have great success there especially in California but not as much recently
