W/R/K screen pass question

  • I was wondering if either of you know why Chaney will not run the screen pass I can't think of any time he's ran it and we all know it works well for a aggressive defense

As Jellico said, I remember Tennessee running it some last year. I definitely don't think Chaney is opposed to calling screen passes or anything like that. Perhaps the times UT ran screens last year just didn't stand out because they didn't produce big plays.

  • Could be I just don't remember them but I do remember this came up on one of the radio shows last year and some other fans like me didn't think he tried them enough

  • Hdrizzle I agree I hate that play it never works and we loose yards most of the time

  • I had a thread on this earlier this year. I will see if I can find it. Somebody went through each game and posted the screen passes which were extremely limited.

  • I remember in the fullmer era it was used a lot and wroked well I'd like to see Chaney use it more if used right it can work to our advantage in most cases Do you guys and gals agree?

  • In my understanding the key to a good screen is having serious deep threats that people have to cover and be scared of- they go out deep to cover multiple threats and you throw short.

After Hunter went down AND especially after we lost Bray not sure people believed we had anyone besides Rogers that they really had to fear and probably would have welcomed a wobbly long ball from Worley. The lack of deep threat paired with the running game's ineffectiveness last season made our offense very predictable.

Much more dangerous play for us this year.

Good post. +1 No use running the screen if the opposing D is staying at home.

I expect there to be a lot more options for Chaney this year than last.
