Was looking at La Tech's 2 deep last night

  • I found it very interesting that about 80 percent of the players on LA Tech's 2 deep were player's that Dooley and his staff recruited, and ironically one that had committed to UT for Dooley's first class, remember Dave Clark? Yep he's a starting safety for LaTech now. Remember the rebuilding project he had at that dumpster fire and how he always talks about making long term decisions. I've mentioned before that it has been said a good way to judge how a coach has recruited is to see how his players do after he leaves to se if he set up the program to win. It's no surprise that Sonny Dykes has been able to win with the players Dooley's staff recruited. I think it will be interesting to see how Dykes does next and then the next once he has a roster full of only his recruits if he can actually keep up this torrid pace that makes him seem like such a genius. Just remember that even with all the experience this team has it is still a young team. I believe some of the problems on defense can be a product of so many young players being forced to play right away out of necessity instead of being able to develope physically and in the weight room. Just my two cents.

  • Its a good point. Look at Houston Nutt, he can win other guys players, but once those players are gone and its the ones he's recruited... well we have seen the outcome for him in arKANSASS and OLE SIS

  • That's probably going to be his legacy here as well.

  • You also have to coach them up when they arrive. Sadly doolander has trouble with that.

I don't get the doolander bit. Am I missing a reference to something or is it meant to be derogatory? Not complaining, just curious?

Yeah but you sometimes need to give it more than 3 years to see them reach their full potential. A famous investor named Peter Lynch used to relate people who panicked too quick when their investments even went up the slightest bit or maybe went down a little bit and sold before they actually reached their actual true valuation as "cutting off the heads before the flower bloomed". These kids have now been in the program 4 and 5 years. Remember these are kids he recruited at LaTech BEFORE he got here, meaning every kid he has recruited at TN has not been here as long as these kids in Ruston, La.

My guess is doolander is a reference to the Ben Stiller movie "Zoolander" where he plays a male model named Derek Zoolander who's good at modeling but clueless to most other things
