We all need to get behind the new coach, but.....

  • Let's not forget that we have to resolve the issues facing UT football. The academic side, the shoddy way this search was handled, and the general state of our athletic department.

    So buy in today, get optimistic, support the coach and the team, but don't get complacent. We have to fix this stuff.

    What was so bad about the way this search was handled? That Hart went after big names who ended up just trying to make their schools jealous enough for a raise? I'm sorry but I would much rather it be handled this way then UT not even try for the big names.

    The fact that he allowed two coaches to publicly string us along and embarrass us. The fact that he didn't squash the Gruden stuff with finality which contributed to the embarrassing train-wreck last night. The fact that he twice had offered the job to people with legitimate interest and then left without closing the deal. The fact that after getting turned down by Strong he then made an extremely fast and some would say panicky hire without interviewing anyone else. This isn't just my opinion, go read what the national writers are saying. It was a bumbling, disorganized, ineffective mess.

    I think Butch Jones is a fine coach but the path that got us to him was absurd. Jeff Long hired Bret Bielema with nary a whisper getting out. NC State targeted the best guy they thought would take the job and went and got him immediately, before other jobs he might have wanted(us, Wisconsin) came open or got to his name. Our search was not handled close to that well.

  • I agree 100%, JPSke. It was a mess and we have egg on our face. It shouldn't be that hard to sell the job with our resources, especially when we allegedly had the best opening on the market.
