We are going to miss the NCAA tourney for the 2nd straight year

  • Am really beginning to worry if CCM can get the job done.

If you do not understand RPI and where we are right now then please do not come in here and try to argue with me. We are in 110's right now and UVA was in the 130's. Once the conference season starts we will not be able to improve our RPI enough to get us into the tourney no matter how good we do in it.

Take he bullet and RS Maymon this year

  • Lord, one crisis at a time.

Lets get a football coach, then we will start the dumpster fire BBall threads.

  • Maybe I am letting my disappointment in the coaching search effect me but these last 2 BB games were horrific and that isn't exaggerating one bit.

  • we have the pieces to win a lot of games, still early in the season. But you are correct, i feel like we as Vol fans have to do a cup check every day now.

  • Its pretty obvious that UT is going to have trouble scoring this year. They are going to have to find a 3rd scorer.

Well, according to no less an authoritative source than CCM, that was supposed to be Skylar, after Stokes and Golden, but once again, he ain't McStache, he's McBrick.

He's only money now when he's unguarded. Everyone wants to bring up the Kansas three, and great, but that's pretty much all you've got. Tough, guarded threes for him are an aberration, not a trend.

I'll agree with you that it doesn't look promising. This offense has been beyond disappointing, and I'm really starting to wonder why. I love Cuonzo, but is it possible that he's just not a good offensive coach? We've got some good shooters in Golden and McBee, slashers like McRae, big bodies in the post, etc. It seems like the pieces are there to at least have an acceptable offense, so I'm confused why it is so bad. But that's a whole separate discussion.

As far as missing the tourny, it doesn't look good, but they still have plenty of opportunities to get resume wins: Wichita St., Xavier, Memphis in the non-conference schedule (all home games, I might add), plus UK, Bama, UF, Mizzou in the SEC (4 of 7 are home). The Vols always seem to put on at least a couple great performances at home against good teams.

And we have no bad losses (yet). All three losses were to likely tournament teams, two of them are ranked, only one (OSU) was never close, none of them were at home. I'm not trying to be Mr. Optimistic and say that this team will still get in the tourny - there is a ton of work to do on offense - but I'm not counting them out yet. We haven't had an Austin Peay 2.0 (yet). If that happens, I'll hit the panic button with you.

  • You can't sign stokes, the 6 other guys who aren't sec players and expect to be good.

Pearl showed you can win and recruit at Tennessee, so whats the problem Martin? Big ten basketball sucks. A nice little parting gift from mike Hamilton.

  • Yes, after 7 games it is conclusive that we are done for the year, pack it in team and just sit at home the rest of the year.

  • I just don't understand how you expect to win with no point guard and no outside shooters. We keep recruiting big defensive wings who can't shoot. Are we even recruiting a real point guard for next year ?

Next you will be telling us how good the coaching search is going.

  • It's December. This time last year UT lost to Austin Peay, Oakland and Charleston.

There's plenty of time for Cuonzo to get this turned around, especially if Maymon is able to return for the SEC slate. UT still has the opportunity to get resume wins and put together a strong conference campaign.

I'm not saying this team will make the tourney. I am saying it's far too soon to rule it out.

My point about the RPI is the SEC is down this year and our chances of improving our RPI during the conference season is very poor. UK is ranked in the 80's right now so even if we beat them it will not be against a top 50 squad. The thing is this team isn't giving you any hope it can beat a really good team so hoping we do is just that hoping. If Maymon can't come back till the SEC season then I say RS him if he is willing because I have a sickening filling our NCAA fate will have been decided this month.

Exactly. This is the problem. This is going exactly like last year, but much uglier. I need not remind you that we lost in the NIT to MTSU last year. We were supposed to be better, but instead we're worse. He's not getting it done.

  • The only reason last season wasn't considered a total failure is that it followed the BP/NCAA debacle and expectations were in the toilet. In every other year, last season was pretty much a disaster. Its not the season to look back to for reassurance.

If every year is... start out playing crappy, have everyone think the season is tanked, surprise people during the SEC regular season to get in bubble talk and then lose to some middling team in the SECT followed by a loss to an instate mid major at home in the NIT, then what that is called is sucking.
