We wont get back until we win on the recruiting trail

  • Kiffin was a prick, but i remember him saying we wont beat bama, florida, etc on the field until we start beating them on the recruiting trail.

    I know Butch needs more time and i'm not saying i expect it this year, but if we want to compete with the top of the sec, we need to get guys like von bell, jalen ramsey, etc.

    Dooley could only out recruit the big boys for a couple players a year. Thats not good enough obviously. You arent going to beat LSU, Bama, and Florida with 80% of your kids being recruits none of the big boys wanted.

    I know its a different time, but look what fulmer did stealing kids from georgia and the carolinas.

    I hope we steal a few kids this year and load up in the 2014 class. Its possible with all the legacies we have, plus pick off a few studs from out of state.

    I mean yeah everyone wants the 5 star talents its not like were saying Please dont come to UT. You gotta realize the sh** hole this program has been in. Dooley was a panicked hire to close a recruiting class cuz he had a nice name and background. The guy couldn't coach plain and simple. Butch has got everything out of the guys that he has recruited and the 3 stars were successful because they got 5 star coaching. I fully believe that CBJ will get the most out of every player we get and push them to being SEC caliber players, But don't be surprised if we end this class with North, Lawson, Green, and Bell. Everyone wants to be a part of a comeback. And yes the 2014 class is huge with all the legacies we have coming out of high school. I think our class next year will show the progress CBJ and the staff has made. Still early have faith....VFL

    I totally agree we need to start winning in getting big time recruits, but as USC has proven this year you have to have someone leading these recruits to win. USC the past 4 years has had a recruiting class of 4th, 1st, 4th, and 8th. And they finish 7-6 this year. This proves that coaching is a huge aspect of winning. I really beleive we have the man in CBJ to start leading and coaching our guys to become winners, on and off the field.

  • I think we are starting to see that Lane isn't as good of a coach as we thought. Yeah he said we needed top players but everyone says that. It's not about how many stars a kid has it's the work ethic that the kid brings to the school. We all know the saying "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard". With that said Lane has proven that he can bring in talent but he can't get them to work together or stay on the team so his talent doesn't help him. Honestly, the only two coaches I know that get the most out of the highly touted players every year are Saban and Meyer I would sau Miles would be in this category but the perception of him getting the most out of his players are not the same. If I have missed some let me know that was just off the cuff. So in my opinion, we need program building kids, kids who come in and want to work hard everyday to prove the critics wrong and that they can compete. I think Jones has this attitude I think he knows that Tennessee is the perfect place to prove that he can win and win big.
