1. I came up here in the summer of 1996 originally just to visit my parents, who had moved up here in 1992. I had graduated high school in 1995 and had gone to school in Kentucky for a year (hated the place), and had decided not to go back. I was looking at enrolling at Tennessee, but discovered that UAA not only had the program/classes I wanted, but was about 1/3 the price of Tennessee, so I wound up going to school there. I've been trying to move back for the last couple of years, but I'm not gonna move back unless I already have a job lined up. There's a very odd parallel between the weekend of the NC state game and my moving up to Alaska, but that's for another post/thread...

2. In terms of size, Alaska is (literally) 1/3 the size of the lower 48. Oddly enough, I get the "Do you know xxx?" question more often IN Alaska than outside the state.

3. I still haven't figured out my travel plans for next year, but I'd like to attend a game if at all possible.

4. There's been at least dialup/AOL for internet for as long as I've been in Alaska. Granted, what was called the internet in 1996 was garbage compared to what's available today. Fortunately the Chattanooga paper had a website up and running at the time, so that became a primary source of news for me.

5. If I packed it in dry ice and shipped it like they do fish, it might survive the trip down.

Right now, the sun comes up around 10am, and it's dark by 4pm. That being said, from roughly June 4 - July 4, it never gets completely dark at night - which is why blackout curtains are so popular. The darkness doesn't bother me nearly as much as the 10-15 day cold snaps where we never see temps above 5-7 degrees.
