3rd and 1 at the 50 yard line. 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter, tied up in a big game at home. What personnel are in the game for you? What's your playcall?

4th and 1 at the 3 yard line...3 yards from the endzone. Down 4 with a minute left. What's the call now?

    1. My favorite play in football. Two big receivers and one TE in the game, and I playaction fake it to the TB on a stretch or regular handoff to the strong side, and I toss it back to the fullback on a flat or wheel route on the weak side, and I'm moving the chains. When you do that play the right way, it almost never fails.

    2. A full yard? I'm putting Bartholomew and Tiny (or someone comparable) at fullback, and I'm giving the ball to my best tailback, and we're picking up that yard or we don't deserve to win the game. Less than a full yard? QB sneak.

Did you really pack the cat in a box?

No. Maximus the Ferocious Fighting Feline of Death jumped in there himself. He always jumps in boxes. He's a lovable idiot. We didn't seal him in there, though, because we like animals more than we like people at The Rucker Ranch.

    Steak or chicken?

Depends on the dish. Chicken's better for you, but I like a good steak as much as anyone else.

What's the vibe inside the athletic office about Dooley? Pressure on him or optimism?

Dooley isn't everyone's type. No one is everyone's type. Some guys love him, some are indifferent and some struggle to get on the same page with him. Same as every other coach I've covered.

I think more people believe than don't believe, but everyone knows the deal this season. Win eight or risk being gone.

How many times do you check Twitter per day?

I have Tweetdeck on my desktop, and it's constantly updating, and I check either a lot or not much, depending on what's going on and what kind of mood I'm in at the moment.

I actually like all of those road trips. Starkville isn't as bad as most people suggest. Good people, good food, a little flat but not OHMYGOSHNEBRASKA flat.

I have friends in all those places. I like all those trips.

Cool. I'm trying my best to get to Starkville this year with an MSU buddy.

Have you ever touched Dooley's hair?

No. But one time I joked about it getting grayer, and he looked at me like he wanted me to keel over and die right there on the spot.

With all the excitement over the arrival of CP, not much has been said about Davante Bourque. All things equal, I think he has a chance to be a really good RB. What is your assessment of his opportunity to make an immediate impact?

I really like his potential in the longterm. He runs a bit upright, but that doesn't bother me as much as it bothers others. Lots of good backs have had upright styles. Not a dealbreaker, IMO.

With that said, Bourque's a bit smaller than I thought he'd be, so I'm wondering what he'll look like in camp. In short, I don't know ... but I think he will be good at some point.

It's no real mystery that I still think Rajion Neal is the most dynamic back on the roster. If he'd hold onto the ball, I think he could be a special player.

Jimmy Hyams just reported that Bruce Pearl has been fired as the head basketball coach at UT! Is this true?

    Yes. I can confirm this.

I also was practically the only media member on earth to mention Cuonzo's name the day Pearl was fired and put Cuonzo on my top-five list of guys I'd want to hire. Not that I'm bragging or anything... biggrin

With the move happening, percentage wise, who owns more stuff, you or the readhead?

Me. But I'm definitely a good bit older than her — God bless America — so I've had more time to accumulate more stuff.

Whats the toughest part of job?

Two-fold: Never being able to completely turn off your brain 24/7/365, and almost always working on holidays and weekends. It's not a job. It's a lifestyle.

What has been your favorite Wednesday's with Wes interview over the years? If you can't pick one, can you pick a top 3?

Great question. I'll think about it.

Byron Moore's SEC JUCO IQ test was good. Moore's a great kid and was a great sport, so that was fun.

The only guy I couldn't get to open up a little bit was JerQuari Schofield. God bless him, he's a nice kid, but interviews aren't his thing. I lost a bet that week. Dangit.

It's not a bad place to visit, and don't let anyone tell you differently.

The man-made catfish ponds and cotton fields are a bit excessive, but there are many places with worse scenery. Not a bad gameday environment, either, and their fans are totally jacked up about the Dan Mullen Era.
