To the best of your ability describe the relationship Fulmer now has with UT/UTAD if any?

Advisory role in certain situations, but not much. Dooley and others have reached out before and let him know the door is open, but he doesn't want to be too visible anymore, IMO.

There was only one true Van Halen. Everyone knows this.

Aha! We do agree on something. A big "real" Van Halen fan and a big Sammy Hagar fan. Saw Sammy open for Boston in 1979 not too long after leaving Montrose. Love me some Red Rocker. Saw Van Halen right after the Jump album came out in mid 80's.

We've all heard the rumors about Tyler being kind of a jerk. Compare his relationship with coaches and teammates to recent UT qbs (Ainge, Clawson, etc)

    I don't think Bray's a turd. I think he's a bit self-centered, but ... ya know ... he's the quarterback. It happens. He's not malicious, IMO. They've had much, much worse.

He's just kind of a laid-back guy. A California kid. Very, very confident, but also pretty quiet for the most part. Keeps to himself more than other quarterbacks I've seen — or at least he did that in the past.

Who is the next basketball commitment?

No clue. Commits — especially the timing of them — are tough to predict. Kids are kids.

  • My son beat me at golf for the first time today. I am on suicide watch and the little sob is lip wedging me unmercifully. I asked him where he learned such classless trash talking and he said he learned it from you. My question is, should I drop my subscription or get an additional one in his name?

It seems like the Redhead has a wicked sense of humor. Regarding the alleged Raccoon situation. Are you sure the Redhead isn't sneaking out into the yard at night and strewing a little garbage around just to mess with you?

That would end badly for her, IMO.

What percentage of a college football coach's success is based on recruiting? actual coaching?

    i think about 80/20.

If you can recruit but can't coach, you have a chance.

If you can coach but can't recruit, you really don't have a chance.

It's more than half recruiting, for sure. Maybe ... 60-40? 65-35?

Any backstory to the basketball schedule changes? An article I read on a Kentucky site suggested UT had made noise about losing the UK game, leading to the change- know anything about that? IYO is this a good development for UT or just building two losses into the schedule every year?

I know UT wanted to stay quiet publicly but REALLY, REALLY wanted to play Kentucky twice every season.

There are times to schedule with your upstairs marbles more than your downstairs marbles, but UT shouldn't be afraid of playing anyone, anywhere, any time in hoops.

Good development, IMO. I think UT should (try to) settle for nothing less than a virtual guarantee that it'll play UK twice at least 75 percent of the time.

    Tell that to Jim Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh recruited really well, too, at both San Diego and Stanford.

You don't just coach up that many draft picks. He even recruited an NFL-caliber QB at San Diego.

Has Tennessee ever had this much talent at wide receiver, even in the glory days of WR U?

And I mean numbers-wise, even though you still might question the depth behind the ones.

The Pickes-Harper era might have one team in the same breath, but that's about it in terms of pure talent, IMO.

Even Swain admits that he, Meachem and Smith aren't close as a group to this group in terms of talent.

Any word on whether Hart has had any success in improving the cell phone reception infrastructure at Neyland?

I haven't asked, but I will. I'd be stunned if he made such a public showing of something he couldn't actually improve. Hart's too smart and way too calculating to do that.

I know you are liking what you seeing on the hoops side. How far can this team go this year?

I think this should be a Sweet Sixteen game, and then you take your chances and hope you're hot and healthy at the right time.

Despite the collegial atmosphere on this board, a good percentage of our fanbase continues to generate hate and "hot seat" talk regarding Dooley. Is there a concern about this impacting revenues since tickets still aren't exactly jumping off the shelves? Or is the feeling that we'd better win and that will solve all the problems?

I think they're doing OK, considering the current economy, but things will be tougher if they don't show improvement this season.

Dooley needs to win more from this point forward, and he knows that as well as anyone. He ain't dumb.
