Wes: In response to something you said on the radio

  • I tried calling into the show and couldn't get through, so thought I would bring my thoughts here. You said you didn't think we would get Gruden, because it would likely cost us abut $10,000,000 annually for him and his staff, and you didn't think that TN would pay that. Then you mentioned Bob Stoops and Jimbo as the next likely guys on the list, and said we most likely wouldn't get them, so we would have to go to the next tier. I am in no way saying that you are wrong, and that certainly hasn't been The TN way in the past, but times have changed. We are freaking TN, and there is no reason this time around that we should have to go after our third or 4th or 5th choice. First, we shouldn't make Gruden say no. We should make him say Yes! I don't care if it ends up being the highest paid coach and staff in America. Even some Alabama fans were upset when they agreed to pay Saban $4,000,000+ dollars a year. People that that was crazy. But it worked, and now they are rolling in the dough. If Tennessee wants to compete on the Bama level, they should spend Bama money. Period. We are TN. Get this done!!!

  • And, since Saban's contract calls for him to be the highest-paid, we make our competitors spend more money too!

Very well said...it's a huge risk putting all that money out there, but it's one that has to be made. Sure we could hire other coaches that may be successful here, but there is one hire that will unite a fan base that hasn't been fully united since the Majors era. This is a crossroads moment for Tennessee Football, and it's put up or shut up time.

Also, did I not hear somewhere that it was estimated that UT lost nearly 2 million in expected revenue due to lack of attendance at the Troy game? A big name like Jon Gruden would IMMEDIATELY get rid of that lost revenue. Sure he costs a lot more, but the revenue gained would likely pay for itself.

I was fashionably late to this party, but I'm there now. Let hire the best coach available, not somebody's smelly leftovers.
