Wes/Ryan - Derrick Green - has he told Butch no thanks?

  • I haven't seen much at all about Derrick Green, but I've seen we've spoken to several other backs. I've read about Jones going to see North, but nothing on Green. Seems like none of the Tennessee recruiting sites can get a word from Green.

It's starting to smell like Green has told the new staff he's no longer interested in Tennessee and thus we're trying with guys like Kemp, etc.

    What say you?

Don't know if it matters but it may be that he doesn't fit their style. I would hope it doesn't matter but I think they use the faster shiftier type backs.

i thought i read early this week some where ryan or kevin said green would fit in good with jones system

i could be wrong..ide say graham is still recruiting green hard..its between us and michigan last i heard
nothing has changed far as i can tell..i could be wrong .but ryan can answer it for sure..kemp seems to be a pretty good back..and jay is recruiting him..which butch might have give him the lead on the kid.

  • I would take Kemp OR Ford Vandy Commit AND Folston and not lose a minutes sleep. Folston is a stud IMO.

  • Green is the type of elite running back that fits any system.

Because you have not seen much about Green means he is not interested in TN?! Not sure how that correlates...

  • I think he could fit Butch's system well. Thanks to Jay Graham I think we gotta great shot at him and hope we can bring him in. He would be that big time running back we haven't had in awhile. I miss the days of us being able to run at will. Of course in a pass first offense that may not be needed anyway.

We will need to run the ball even better in a "pass first" offense....you don't want a D to be able to make you one dimensional. Landing Green will be huge...

  • I think people have the wrong idea of this offense. 2700 yards passing vs. 2400 yards rushing. 350 passing attemps vs. 450 rushing attemps. Pretty balanced.

Not the wrong idea I know they rush a lot, but in "spreads" a lot of times it's your smaller quicker back that they like to get to the outside. Green has speed but is more of a power runner. It was just an assumption as to why we haven't heard much on him but hopefully he has just gone quite. He's no doubt #1 on my wish list regardless of position.

People hear the word "spread" and lose their minds thinking we're going to suddenly morph into Oregon.

"Spread" is the most overused and pliable description of modern football offenses.

Oregon runs more interior runs than outside runs. Those types of spreads tend to get to the outside via a fly sweep or dump pass more often than via handoff.

  • Isiah Pead was a stud for UC last year and he isn't doing that bad in the NFL so far. He's just on a not great team with a poor OL and a guy named Steven Jackson ahead of him. Heck I had him on my fantasy roster last year or the year before I forget which. Guy absolutely torched most teams he ran against.

My bet is a more pro style offense for 2013 and a possible shift to more spread 2014. Look at the offense we ran THIS year, uptempo with no huddle and the pistol formation. With some I formation double TE sets. CBJ doesnt run the Oregon Spread, he has his own flavor with a more balanced run vs pass.

Actually, Pead hasn't played much this year. Daryl Richardson, another rookie for the Rams, managed to overtake Pead on the depth chart, which did nothing for Pead's value in the fantasy league in which I drafted him. Many had projected that Pead would be Steven Jackson's long-term replacement, but that may or may not be true now.

Still, I agree that Pead is a good player, but he hasn't done much this season.

ah ive only seen one Rams game and he ran the ball a couple times in it......that's pretty funny I saw the only game he touched the ball pretty much all season. Looked at hisstats and he's touched the ball 5 time i think and the one game i see he carries 3 times for 32 yards with a long of 19 yards.

  • I read that Mike Farrell tweeted that the addition to Thigpen to the staff has only helped our chances with Green. You heard anything like that Ryan?
