What am I missing?

  • I have been doing a lot of traveling on business the past few weeks, so I haven't been able to follow our recruiting efforts too closely. That said, I haven't been noticing that we've gotten any new commitments in a while. Is that true? Also, when I look at the commitment list, it looks to me like our current class is dominated by 3-stars, with a few 4-stars and no 5-stars. I this true also? I also read somewhere that between early departures and graduations, we've lost our 5 best offensive players from last year's squad (Bray; Hunter; Patterson; Rogers; and Rivera). If all that's right, then I'm starting to get a little worried about our team's immediate and long term future: I'm starting to see more losing seasons and I'm seeing a half full Neyland Stadium. Hoping someone who's following things closer and is more informed can shed some light on things and provide some reason for optimism.

  • Yes, it's all true BUT..... CBJ and staff is doing a tremendous job recruiting. We should have a real legitimate shot at landing a few BIG names on signing day. We just landed Marquez north (big receiver) and should in my opinion get Vonn Bell. Have a chance with C.lawson and d.bellemy and J.Ford. Things are ok right now so dont worry just yet. +1 to help with the downvotes you got for some reason.

Yeah...agree with above. We arent getting a top 5 class but it should be top 20 and maybe top 15.
As for the downvotes, its ridiculous that someone downvotes you for asking what's going on because you have been traveling.
i got one back for you.

  • You don't have to read the OP if you don't want to... this seems like a legit question that a fan that hasn't had the chance to get in here for a while would ask... +1 to the OP

  • I wouldn't say we lost our five best offensive players.

  • Sorry but my first thought was just another troll stopping by and I still think this is the case. Unless your business is protecting this country there is NO WAY a fan doesn't know this stuff already. Just saying.

I want to go on the Vandy board and say I've been traveling for the last 80 years...

Umm.. Yes there is. I know plenty of fans that do not know the stuff I know. This is a ridiculous arguement. He was just trying to find information, and even if he was a troll, what did he say that was so upsetting. He was asking questions, not making statements that disrespected the school or players.

All true statements that you make. But all is certainly not lost..yet..regarding this year's class. Still waiting on a handful of highly rated players as Vollogan points out above. If we get commitments on NSD from at least 2-3 of the likes of Bell, Bellamy, Ford, Levenberry, Dobbs, Miller, Lawson, Boyd etc..i think the class, as a whole, will be okay. If we pull in 5-6, the class will be stellar. The one weak spot is that we have missed on some significant OL prospects, leaving us with a problem at that position come 2014..

I live just outside Boston, they don't even know college sports, other than hockey, exist up here... not everyone lives in college football central.

  • The future is already better because Derek Dooley is gone. That in itself is a positive! Otherwise, Jones has done a really good job of getting UT involved with some top notch prospects. He may not close with all of them, but I think he will end up with a decent class. If this signing period is any indication of Jones and his staff's recruiting abilities, then they should start to bring in some top classes when they actually have time to build relationships. The biggest thing is winning on the field, so that is obviously still an unknown at this point. It will take time because of the loss of our top players on offense, but I think Jones will restock the cupboard and things will be fine. With anything else -- I believe it will take some time because he will have to restock both lines and the LB corps after this year. If he can do that then I believe he will have things rolling in the right direction. Of course all of this is JMO.

Thx. I'm a little surprised by the hostility too. I am and have long been a huge Vol fan; lived and died with our Orange. Definitely not a troll; just a little behind on info and a little discouraged about the way things have been going since we whacked Fulmer.

I think some people on here forget that people do have lives outside of UT athletics and they have things that have to be done.
I know some of you think that's crazy talk...but it's true!!
Nothing wrong with asking for information or a recap of the last few weeks.
