What happens to Bama's class when Saban goes to Browns?

  • Lot of smoke about HC Pat Shurmur getting canned along with an overhaul in front office of Haslam's version of the Browns starting tomorrow (Holmgren already been let go). Also talk from reputable folks that Saban may want back in the NFL for another go back back in Cleveland. If this transpires it most definately wouldnt happen until after Jan 7 BCS Championship which would leave them in scramble mode with the short time frame until signing day, kinda like what Lame did to us.

What kind of impact would that have on Alabamas class?
How fast would they snatch up Smart to try and keep it intact?
Would they look in another direction to get a more proven commodity?

  • I'll believe it when I see it. I think Saban wants to make AL fans forget the Bear. He may never leave. He already has a statue. Besides, nobody is ever going to win in Cleveland.

  • I just read an article on espn that said the Browns would go after an offensive minded coach like Chip Kelly or Bill O'Brien.

All we can do is wait and see, but he said he wasn't going pro to miami, next day he left. Then, at Miami, said he wasn't going back to College, a week or so later he's at Bama.....Soooooo.....my guess is a box of chocolates.....never know what you are gonna get from him with this kind of stuff.

  • Saban has apparently gone on record as stating that he'd only jump back to the NFL if the team had a top-caliber QB in place already. Hard to claim the Browns have anything even close to that level at QB right now. Plus, there are also questions about how much control he'd want over personnel decisions, something which might also affect the chances of the Eagles getting Chip Kelly (who appears to be their #1 choice now, not Gruden).

Yep....he has complete control now. Going pro, and losing some of that power would probably discourage him from jumping ship.

Saban didn't say that. He hasn't commented on any potential NFL situations. Peter King said it and it got attributed to Saban. Finebaum has said that for Saban to even consider an offer the money would have to be huge, he would need an established QB and his personnel man would have to be someone he can work closely with. Cleveland can take care of #1 and #3 but they do not have a QB.

His wife said they were very comfortable at Bama and they were looking forward to him retiring there... it was NOT him.

Maybe so....but Wifey don't make the big money. HUbby does, and I would almost bet that Nick wears the pants in the relationship.....unless he switches to a girdle and a skirt when the doors close lol. rottentomato

Gotch ya....I bet we will hear something on the 8th of Jan, unless they hire someone before then. I almost think Reid will end up in Cleveland. If KC landed a Top QB in draft, which we know they will, do you think they would stand a chance at landing Saban ? Hmmmm maybe, maybe not. But Saban likes control. KC would be a place he could have nearly complete control. The fan base is great win lose or draw. Have some decent talent, that Romeo hasn't been able to tap their true potential.

Lake Burton. I believe they also have a beachside home in south Florida.

Luxury House of National Champion Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban - The Pointe

While it takes a great builder to craft a home that exceeds the finest of expectations, it takes an imaginative eye to build a home that embodies the heart and soul of natures graceful beauty while providing the ease and flow of luxury living.

It's on Lake Burton near the Dooley's house in a gated community. I heard it's for sale.
