I read that Conklin is going to call the defense this week - unless he won't. I also read that Sal pretty much quit on Sunday after he was given the news - but he didn't. Then I read about mass confusion on the sidelines last Saturday with defensive players imploring Sal to tell them what to do.

What the hell is going on? Who ran practice this week - Sal or Conklin? Wes? Ryan?

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but it seems like another year of internal coaching turmoil. I wonder if we have another meltdown ahead?

I actually think the defense would be better off with Conklin as DC. From everything I have read and heard, he is an up and coming coach. He has actually been a DC (albeit at Citadel). Sometimes, there just isn't any substitute for having been there, done that. I think the defense will be better this week if Conklin truly is making the calls.

It will be better by default. It seriously can't get any worse, seriously. We have the worst defense I've ever seen and I'm not trying to be cute or funny.

This comes back to my frustration with Dooley. Relationships and decision making.

    1) It's a good idea to change the staff around and the defensive system, again, in one week? That's a good idea and that's the plan for making our defense more organized? These boys are so confused about what they're doing as it is, now we're adjusting the style again and changing the coaches around?

    2) You just lost almost every single staff person last year and, again, your coordinator is ticked off and ready to quit and you're, basically, throwing him under the bus in pressers?

He's a good man. He's good at managing facilities, etc. but as a head coach, again, I'm not a believer.

When you give up 718 yards and 48 points to a school most saw as a cupcake, don't you have to do something drastic? If your job was on the line, would you just sit back, do nothing and let it happen?

Look at this entire season. The offense has been historically good. The defense is historically bad. Dooley gets no credit for the offense, and he's ripped for trying -- albeit probably way to late -- to try and fix a broken defense?

Well, then I guess we know which side of the ball wins football games. Too bad we are good on the wrong one.
