I'm going to admit that I have a huge man-crush on Roman. The Harbaugh's are known as tough, fundamental football coaches. If he didn't fit that mold, he would not be coaching with Jim Harbaugh. He had success at Stanford with smart, tough players so I think he can get the most out of his guys. I think if we hired Roman, we'd be competing for the SEC within three years. He'll bring fundamental football back to Knoxville. I think we'd be lucky to have this guy. I also think if we pass him up, he's going to be a star somewhere else very soon.

Would mean Hart did not stick with his word that he wanted a proven coach. Tressel, Gruden or someone like that should be the guy IMO

I'm leaning that way also. He's not my top choice but we could do much worse.

I'd be extremely nervous. The guy has only been a coordinator for a couple of years and has never been a head coach. I've said it before and I'll say it again, head coaching and coordinating are COMPLETELY different skill sets. I've seen too many fantastic coordinators crash and burn as head coaches(Monte Kiffin, Curley Hallman, Gene Chizik, DeWayne Walker, Ron English, Randy Shannon, Larry Coker and I could go on for 10 pages) and even good head coaches that fail as coordinators(Clawson).
I think head coaching experience should be gained at the Middle Tennessee and Arkansas State's of the world, not the SEC. And certainly not for the price he'd be asking.
The guy is probably my last choice out of a list of realistic candidates.

Tressel CAN'T come here because of his five year show cause penalty. UT would have to make a case to the NCAA that convinced them to allow us to hire him, and that isn't happening with us on probation already.

well he can come here, his 5 year show cause means he is only gonna miss 5 games and the bowl game, he must send a report to the NCAA every 6 months.

He seems to have a lot of good credentials. There isn't a lot of realistic hires that are proven head coaches.

I would be thrilled to have him as our next coach. However, I would be a little disappointed because the average fan wouldn't know who he is and wouldn't show the support of someone like Gruden or Stoops.

We have had experience with hiring an OC before for Head Coach. Worked out pretty good during the 90's . . .

I am coming around to him. Certainly like his offense at 49ers. Would have to hire a great defensive cordinator. Spread the money out. this year proved to me the coaches are just as important as the head man. Forget Gruden if has to wait to see what league jobs are open. Just means he will jump ship as soon as his dream job comes open. Give me a guy that his dream job is the Big Orange.
