Where will Vols turn for WR coach?

  • Chasing after Dameyune Craig, offering him a 30% raise, and getting turned down publicly sounds like a likely course of action. MOAR EMBARRASSMENT, MOAR.

  • Wes, could you elaborate on what we have to offer our WR coach at this point? (title, money, responsibilities, etc.) I really like the first two candidates on that list, as I believe some "diversity" could benefit us, plus their resumes are impressive. However, they seem to be in great situations with great jobs so I was wondering if you could expound on how we could make the offer "sweet" to guys in such good situations.

  • just curious if there is a specific reason that someone like Bobby Kennedy would be a WR Coach for so long and not move up to OC or something like that. I guess I am asking, are these guys a special breed and that is what they are good at, or if you don't see them moving up, they probably aren't all that great?

Nice call on Lamarakable...he would help with at swagger stuff we seem to have misplaced...and I suspect like Wes, he would bring some nice talent in the door.

Who in the hell is "Lamarakable"? You would have to have swag with a name like that.

  • Nobody else has thrown out the name of Kippy Brown so why not Kippy? Yes, he was give the bums rush by Mike Hamilton after Kiffin botled, but that was three years ago. Brown is a proven field coach and has been a great recruiter in the past. I guess the one negative would be his age. He'll be 58 in March, but the guy can stil coach and his NFL background might appeal to prospects.

I'd say Kippy has as strong or stronger of a background than any of the other candidates. That being the case, I wouldn't mind Hinshaw being retrained. But it wouldn't hurt to at least give Kippy a call.

Good call I would take that, but that bridge may have burned

  • If you can get Craig then that's a huge get but I don't see it happening myself. JMO but if not Craig then I say keep Hinshaw, great receivers coach and probably are best recruiter the last 2 years. I like Weist but I feel safer with Hinshaw.

  • I like this John Doe character. If he can be anywhere in the USA, he'll likely be a lights out recruiter, JMO.

In all seriousness, I like all of the options.

  • Hearing Tee Martin turn us down, after all the crap we've endured for the last 5 years, felt like I'd been gut punched. This may be the only chance Tee has to come home and coach... you never know about these things. But what I do know is that one more bad season and the entire USC coaching staff will be looking for jobs... at which point this one will have been filled.

Toya is going to feel awfully silly if she ends up having to move to Lincoln, NE or Boise, ID next year. Or worse yet, Starkville.

  • I honestly hope he doesn't ever come back now. This was our time of need, and nothing would have sent the message that UT was coming back more than Tee spurning Kiffin and USC and coming home the hero. Offering him a job when the situation is turned around after that would be completely pathetic.

    Time to move on.

It's like any job in a tiered structure... promotions tend to require a different skill set than the old job.

There have been tons of assistants that are great at one level, but incompetent at the next. Position coaches work mostly on technique and get much closer to their individual group of players. Coordinators have to design strategy and manage the other coaches and the players on their side of the ball. And Head Coaches are basically a hybrid CEO/HR... their job is 90% evaluation and management.

We don't just turn our back on a Vol... and you don't remotely know what the story is. Tee will always be welcome in Knoxville, unless we are playing his current employer.

What do you call what he just did to us? We have a street named after him. give me a break.

I can have fondness for a person, think well of them, and proclaim my loyalty. But if I won't pull them out of quicksand when they are sinking because it would make my new suit a little dirty what kind of person am I?

If he wanted to come, he could have found a way to come. Now isn't convenient for him, but getting embarrassed by him isn't convenient for us. Never again.
