Who do you want to fill Baggett's spot on staff?

  • if they can't get Porter and I think he is a long shot, go for Chris Batey at Vanderbilt or Billy Napier at Alabama.

Both are outstanding recruiters and coaches. Batey should be easy to buy, Vandy can't match us $. Napier is in an adminstrative position at Bama.

Those are the first two picks I would make. Of course, if addiitonal staff changes on the way over there you most likely would wait to see what the mix of staff needs to be.

I'm just curious because I don't really know, but wouldn't you want a coach that either actually played the position or had a lot of experience coaching the position?

cutcliffe played tight end but is a great QB coach

In addition to the great insight from James Pennington on the Tee thread, QB and WR are generally interchangeable in coaching for whatever reason. I don't have any numbers but a lot of WR coaches played QB and vice versa. I guess that is because a former QB knows what to expect of a WR and vice versa.

    Let's hear it.

I hear John Nypaver is available...he is an extremely under the radar coach and avid supporter of the Vols who has claimed on multiple occasions that he could get the job done if given the opportuntity....he is a high risk low reward hire for Coach Dooley's consideration :-)

Welcome to the board Big Cat.

Your handle was taken, so I changed it to UT Big Cat.

I almost made it UL Big Cat, but decided against it.

Apolgies to the board, but this is one of my best friends in the world posting an inside joke. He just signed up today, so we have a newb on the CheckerBoard.

UL, if you log out and log back in your name will be UT Big Cat instead of 34_bigcat. If you want a different handle, let me know.

    Welcome to the board!

I think DD is still looking through the low risk, high reward stack first. And who is John Nypaver?

  • Since Dooley was a reciever in college, move him to WR coach at $2 million+ a year and hire a head coach, Just joking! There are really a lot of good WR candidates, not sure if any as good as Baggett.

Assuming Hiestand is leaving in addition to Baggett, I would consider adding Porter & Tee to be basically an overall wash in terms of staff quality. Losing Baggett is a real blow, but I think our situation with RBs would benefit in a huge way adding Porter. Tee is a definite downgrade from Baggett (not a knock against Tee), but from reports is decent at the position and an up-and-coming recruiter. Plus gives Dooley instant brownie points with the fanbase.

If these end up being the staff changes, I would be satisfied. Hard to be thrilled losing a coach of Baggett's quality, but you gotta make the best of it. Tee coming back would at least bring warm fuzzies.

  • Martin's been very quiet on Twitter today, and he's usually already posted 3-4 things by now, even on game days. There might be some credence to the rumblings, although nothing can be verified at this time. If there are offers on the table, this staff is doing a very good job of playing things close to the vest.

  • Is Tee even a good WR coach? My guess is that many of you don't know. I just want Porter as our RB coach.. I'll let Dooley figure out the rest.

  • The buzz is that Tee is a decent position coach hampered by a team that struggles to land talented players. He is also reportedly an above-average recruiter.

Wes (who is typically very conservative in his predictions) says that he believes Tee would walk down I75 on hot coals to get to Knoxville if he is offered. So if Tee has been offered, I bet he is in Orange pretty quick.

  • Jay Norvell of Oklahoma or Kasey Dunn of Oklahoma St.. These guys always produce great wide outs. I doubt we could get either one, but that's my picks. My third pick would be Arky's WR coach. If your gonna swing, swing for the fence.

  • Guys Chaney is NOT going to coach OL, you can forget that. OL is to important to let our OC coach. The OC does not have time to game plan AND put the required time in to adequately coach a position. OCs spend 90% of there time with the QBs game planning during the week. This is part of the reason we are in a sticky situation now. We basically have two coaches with the QBs and NO ONE with the RBs.

Fire Heistand. Hire Tee and Larry Porter. Set up Offensive coaching like - Chaney OL/OC, Porter RB, Martin QB, Hinshaw WR (or vice versa for Hinshaw and Martin), Russell - TE/ST

I like this scenario except instead of Porter insert Gramhn. I think Porter is great, just not sure if he would be here long. I also like the thought of bringing in another VFL that is qualified, and imagine Spurrier would not keep him if he wasn't good.

  • Didn't hinshaw coach wr's at memphis? I say put him at wr.

Chaney at oc/qb since most oc's spend more time with qb anyway.

Make a change with heistand, and hire a rb and ol coach. Just my twocents

I would love to see some former Vols move into one or more of these positions.
