Who likes coach Dooley?

  • Okay lets see how many post reply's we can get on this! Simple Yes or No will do unless you want to share the reason.

    volman2010

  • Yes. He is the right man to take us from embarrassment and rebuild our program. Hope he's the right coach to go the extra step.

    GhostofNeyland

  • Yes. More and more, everyday. Great sense of humor too!

  • I likes me some Doolander.

    volfan002

  • Yes. What about you OP?

    CincyVol

  • Yes, enjoy reading his clever interviews and glad he keeps everything tight lipped. We just have to trust the staff and watch what happens on the field. Everything is a process in football and look forward to seeing spring practice and Orange / White game.

  • I enjoy the interviews and love the passion on the sidelines. I also loved the fake punts and 4th down chances that were taken. I hope he succeeds so he can be here for a long time.

  • I am a Auburn fan and hope you don't mind me sharing my opinion... I think CDD is a great hire for UT.. he seems to wanna build the program right.. I think in time he can and will be very successful at UT!!

  • As a person he's said and done all the right things beyond my expectations. He seems to care about these guys and about UT's football program. He's funny as hell and sharp as a tack. As a football coach, I'm still not sure. I think overall he's done a positive job and I want to believe that he's the guy. I am very optimistic, but some of the repeated game management issues are very concerning. We can't have too many men / not enough on the field in year two. We need to be able to get plays called and executed in a timely fashion. I know not all of that is the staff's fault, but if that's still an issue in year two then the blame can only be laid on them.

I can't get a real sense of how much I'm going to like him until we've been through a couple seasons together. Of course after the last guy, I won't be jumping in the tank for any coaches very quickly. So overall I like him a lot, but at this point I'm not ready to go all in with Coach Dooley.

There was no way I could answer this with a simple yes or no. Sorry.

    I'll hang up and listen.

  • We got by the 2 weeks before NSD period without him leaving so that makes him better than previous staff. Seriously thou, I like him:

    Dougs Rug Vol

  • Yes..I think CDD will build a solid foundation in Knoxville and will make our team a team we can be proud of off the field and on.....

But I don't think he will be the coach to lead us back into contention for National Championships. I also am not real fond of some of the remarks about our players, some find it humorous, I don't. Before CDD, I was hopeful that UT would call Tommy Bowden...pretty much same style recruiting and values, but a much more experienced coach on a bigger stage than La Tech.

Still a good hire and a good man for the program.

  • Its not a question of like or dislike. The question is can he get the job done and so far the early indicaters are no.But like i said that doesn't mean he can't. Some here need to ask themselves "do i love Tennessee or Dooley" For me i love Tennessee i have no love or hate for any coach. We need to decide do we want to win or do we want to be 8-4 or 9-3 every year. To me its no question i want to win at the highest level and if Dooley turns out hes the man to do that then fine. But i'm not gonna have blinders on and declare Dooley the savior when hes proven nothing. Theres nothing wrong withholding praise til praise is warrented. All this love Dooley is only gonna make it worse for him if he does fail. I can just here it now everything i'm telling you now will be repeated by an unhappy fanbase. And i could be a jerk and say i told you so but i won't. Cause i didn't tell you Dooley would fail i just told you that its highly unlikely that it worksout. Alot of you say give Dooley a chance well i am giving him a chance its the over the top lovefest crowd for Dooley thats not giving him room to breath!

  • YES!!! I don't know what more we could ask for. Sure the LSU game hurt but without being coached up the team shouldn't have even been in the game/ same for UNC. Personally I'm glad Muschamp turned us down and recommended him. I love his style perfect for the SEC. He has pro experience. He worked for the Jedi ( lol) of coaching Saban for 7 years. We got in with him early so he is young. He was coach and AD at his prior job. Given the mess he inherited and the situations that he had to deal with I don't think we could have asked for more and been realistic. Most are predicting a top 10ish class while rebuilding the lines. We are all skittish after the last few years and I know I sound like a Dooley cheerleader but honestly what more could anyone ask for? He makes the right hires. That is a big part of being a great head coach, surrounding yourself with talented coaches and trusting them enough to delegate duties down. He seems to be a great evaluator of talent both on the field and on the sideline. I personally can't think of another coach I would trade for right now. The upside is limitless and unknown. From what i've seen so far the answer is YES without a doubt. I'll admit when the hire was made I thought what in the world...... but after a year of watching and learning WOW we got a steal IMO

  • Yes, I like Coach Derek Dooley and his staff.

    OrangeCrush

  • Hell Yes!

    Jersey Vol

  • Yes so far, but the jury is still out. I like the direction he is heading with rebuilding the trenches. That has been a sore spot for the last half of a decade or more. They got to get back to holding opponents under a hundred yards rushing in a game. That seems to be one critical stat that UT hasn't addressed in forever especially playing in the sec. If the team isn't competing against Florida and Alabama next year, my tone will probably change.

  • I strongly support Dooley and can't imagine why any Tennessee fan would not. He comes in two weeks before NSD 2010 and not only does he keep a potentially mutinous class together, he brings in some 11th hour surprises, including the No. 1 recruit in the state where I live. I loved the days of whine and wilted roses from all these Dawgs about losing Da'Rick.

Then we went into what could well have been a disastrous season. Defections from two coaching changes, no depth, little hope. So we hit the field with 16 freshmen. Greenhorns who would have been redshirted every other year in BOC were asked to start against the likes of Oregon, Alabama, LSU and Georgia. We were competitive in every game except UGA, and that was the direct result of the hangover from the 5-3-5 defense in Baton Rouge. (I don't blame the staff for that -- too many kids got confused and did the wrong thing.)

Dooley brings Bray along perfectly and suddenly we have an offense again and football is fun in Knoxville. We win out and make it to a bowl. I would have taken 6-7 and a bowl game back in September in a New York minute and I'm still happy with it today. There will be even more good news next week.
