Wife Talk

  • Never posted on here, no real ties to UT, but my wife just got off the phone with Cindy (they were college cheer teammates at UT) and she said Jon is in serious discussions with UT about becoming their next coach. Evidently there are a couple of things holding up the deal. 1) Hart doesn't have the $ to meet Gruden where he "wants" to be but she doesn't think that is the biggest detractor 2) Complete autonomy on assistant decisions, Hart said he would have to keep Sal for at least the completion of this contract; Hart is a big Sal fan and thinks he needs more time to implement. Of course, Gruden despite working with QB's recently is a huge "D" guy so this isn't sitting well. All in all Cindy is hopefully she can replant her roots back in Knoxville and spend more time with her family...could be a good sign, what do you vol fans think?

  • If Hart pisses this opportunity away because of buddy hackett he should be run out of Tennessee on a rail.

On a lighter note, Welcome to the CheckerBoard. Where Gruden rumors are spreadin' quicker than a Las Vegas Brothel.

BUTCH IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. GO VOLS!

  • Just pointing out:

Gruden has never coached on the defensive side of the ball. QBs coach, WRs coach, Offensive QC Coach, WRs coach, Offensive Assistant, WRs coach, Offensive Coordinator, Head Coach, Head Coach, MNF Analyst.

I would think Sunseri's chances of being retained are about even with Dooley's at this point. Slim chance either is retained without the other.

  • Biljones223,
    A few things:
Welcome home. Holy crap. Give our best to your wife.

I find it difficult to believe that Sal would survive (in the event of a HC change). Not impossible, just difficult. Of course, Sal is/was a Hart guy.

    Crazy times are crazy.

  • So if they come to an agreement does Hart fire Dooley right away or wait until end of season, or what? If Dooley rallies the troops the next couple of weeks and we are playing lights out.. Then he comes in on a Monday afternoon after a win and drops the hammer?

    Hypothetically, of course. Go Vols!

this seems good until the Sal part.. Hart was a booster but I don't believe that is any longer the case.. highly disappointed in Sal's results and I would be shocked at him taking that position for a future coach.. assuming there is a future coach..

  • It would be a travesty for Sal to outlast Dooley. I would much prefer for Hart to say, "you need to strongly consider keeping Graham. He is a tie to the former players, a solid coach and a good recruiter."

I would throw Pittman in there too. He's done a great job and that would help our chances of keeping James another year.

I wouldn't be upset if they kept Palermo. I think the D-Line has been good this year. Couch has played well, McCullers and Sentimore have been outstanding and a few others are coming on now. It's tough to field a unit with mostly Juco players.
