Worley Horse Aint dead Yet!

  • While I am not one to overly care about the stars as much as having a coach that picks winners this 3 star Justin Worley thing is sticking in my left ear..Like a wet willy ! So to ease the pain of knowing for a fact I am right ( facts based off the same stats used for every HS QB in the land and how he stacks up against them) tell someone at 247 to take their little mouse clicker and give the kid his due and respect. If he has not earned the extra star fine but do not throw the old line "His arm is not strong enough" junk this way because when it comes to a college QB's arm always get stronger. Just look at current UT QB for example.

What I am saying is no way (while not bad) this kid deserves the 3 stars listed by his name with all he has done.

Okay, I expect some backlash so just answer this question.. Who in the Top 10 Qb's in this class has better numbers? Or who in the top 10 has Gator Raid Player of the year award?

If we are not basing the rating on how they played then please ignore all the star stuff and lets just list all all alike. But if we are basing off how the played the let's see some love for the kid.

What say the Sports Fans: Based of the numbers how would YOU rate Worley..

    My Vote: 5 stars

  • Just curious; Have you seen him play, or are you basing your argument only on stats?

Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad he's coming here. But unless we miss out on Kiel, Pike, or another top guy for '12, Worley more than likely will only start if there is an injury. Bray has 2-3 more years and I believe if we get one of our top targets next year, then that guy will beat out Worley.

  • Worley is a classic 3* who is the National Highschool Player of the Year Award Winner.

If St. Nick was in the mix, he'd be a 5 *....

I think Worley is going to be a very good player. That said, he's not even the best player in his state - let alone the nation. The Gatorade Award heavily takes into account things like grades, community service/involvment, etc.

Jadeveon Clowney is the consensus best player in the country - and he's from South Carolina.

As I've mentioned in previous threads ... 3-star players are not the equivalent of C students. Three-star prospects are among the best of the best in high school football.

Most players who excel in college have good odds of being three-star players because there are only about 25 five-stars and 300 or so four-stars every year. About 2500 kids are going to sign Division I football scholarships next week. Do the math.

  • Anybody see Worley get denied on the kiss cam at game tonight? She probably wasn't interested since he's only a three star prospect.

    I'll hang up and listen.

Folks I live in Rock Hill, SC. I watched Justin Worley play since he first started at Northwestern as a soph. The QB he replaced was a 5'10" 170 pound QB named Will King who is now a wide receiver at Furman. Will threw for 3500 + and ran for 1200+ as a senior. He was one of the most dynamic players I ever seen at QB in high school. Justin is ranked correctly. As a matter of fact, I doubt he will ever be better than a good back up QB at this level. I watched Justin play for three years. I saw first hand some horrible games he played as a junior with young WR's.. He barely throws passes further than 10 yards. Northwestern runs a Texas Tech style offense. Their running game consist of 5 yard outs to wideouts on the perimeter. Justin will be a redshirt this up coming year. He will probably back up Nance or whoever the staff gets next recruiting cycle unless Chaney can fix his overall mechanics. His arm strength is barely D-1 level. I have attended every Northwestern High football game the past 5 years and I still believe Will King was a better QB. Thats just my opinion though. Now theres a youngin at Rawlinson Rd. right next to Northwestern who is the REAL DEAL at quarterback. His name is Vincent Eamanuel and he is only 12 and a 7th grader, but played in the East West all star game for middle schoolers in San Antonio, TX. The young man has a stronger arm than Justin right now.

  • Jeeesh! What current qb's arm got stronger? If you are talking about Bray, he had a great arm coming out of high school where he won the Elite 11 long distance accuracy competition.
If you keep looking to the stars you'll get hit by a truck.

Thanks for that insight. It's pretty hard to argue with your three years of eyes-on experience.

  • I've seen him play twice, and 3 stars seems accurate from that limited sample. Like the guy said above, he doesn't throw down field often. When he does, he doesn't do so with much arm strength and he throws kind of an ugly ball if that makes sense. It gets to the right place though which is all that matters. Peyton doesn't throw the best looking ball, but the results speak for themselves. Obviously not comparing the two by the way. You also really have to like the 4.08 GPA. Chaney likes smart QBs, and I'll take his word over Rivals, Scout, ESPN, and 247 combined. He's coming into a perfect situation. RS this year to work on his mechanics/problems above, Bray possibly leaves after junior year, and he has 3 years to play. I think it's a great pickup the year after you have a freshman play as well as Bray. That's not an easy situation to sell.

  • He's intelligent, hard working, and willing to redshirt. If his surrounding cast continues to improve these things are a recipe for success.

  • I think 247 could really give themselves a Boost in the Public eye if they were to Rate some of these kids that are obviously mis-rated by Rivals. After hearing some of the excuses Rivals came up with as to why some of our Recruits didn't get a bump in ratings and their overall professionalism is one of the reasons I made the switch from Rivals to 247. I wish 247 would show some of these kids some love that they deserve by giving them that extra Star. I think if they were to do that the 247 image would start to pick up a bit.

  • I hate to disagree with you, but I'm not sure bumping a few prospects up in the rankings because a fanbase complained about their low rankings on another site would be the best way to boost 247's national image...

  • On a Rivals radio show, I heard the following:

5 star - Expected to be an All-American in college and sure NFL draft pick.
4 star - Expected to be All Conference and probable NFL draft pick
3 star - Expected to be a starter or significant contributor to the team and not projected to the NFL
    2 star and 1 star weren't covered

They said a lot of the rating system was based on how the kid projects to the NFL. I found that odd, but that's what they said.

  • I think "NFL Draft Pick" has become the easy way of saying "impact player/difference maker" in college. And really, by the time a player's career is over in college don't most people judge how much impact they had by where they got drafted? Outside of a few combine warriors who get picked by the Raiders.

Gawd! Can we quit with this "star bumping". No matter how many stars the kid has, he will still be the same kid and talent. Why do you people need this type of ego boost?

I hate to pick on an opinion but if they were to do that for our kids they would need to do it with the other kids at all other member schools. After all the bumping was done to make the fans happy all the schools would sign 15 four stars and 10 five star players, they would all share the number 1 recruiting class in the nation, and everyone would complain about that lol.......... there will always be a prospect or two that people don't agree on. That being said if you look at the number of players ranked and the difference in the overall numbers there isn't alot of difference. Rating prospects is a very hard thing to do and all the major services do a pretty good job at making money off it. I'll take a combination of the stars, the number of offers and from which programs they come from, and the positions the team needs help in when I rate our recruiting class. It's hard to recruit a number one class when only signing 10 or so skill players as they are normally the bulk of 5 star prospects I'll also trust our coaches to know much more than me. These sights give their insight and are just a piece of the overall puzzle.
