Would have been nice if Stokes had been practicing already...

Wes?? Any answer from Martin? Seems to reason that if we took advantage of the rule that allows a player to practice for 2 weeks in anticipation of being ruled eligible by the NCAA Clearinghouse, he might be ready to take the court already. No?

He wasn't cleared by the SEC until Saturday, then he had to pack his stuff and head to Knoxville. He practiced yesterday.

I get that. But the overriding theme coming from Knoxville journalists is this:
Stokes is now in the process of having his academic transcript and test scores cleared by the NCAA's Clearinghouse. Stokes won't be able to play in games until he's through that stage, though should he and the Vols choose to exercise it, there is a two-week grace period during which he could practice while awaiting word.
That wasn't from Wes or anyone on this board but that seemed to fit in with what everyone was saying. So if he could legally practice, why wouldn't Martin and staff take advantage of that? Stokes could have come in 10 days ago and gotten a little up to speed while they were waiting for him to be cleared.
Or did everyone misunderstand the rule?

Won't change anything but the WHY is always nice to have answered. It gives insight into decision making for good or bad.

NYC, I watched a presser where Martin said something about Jan 13. That is what I am going on. Early would be good, but that was coming from the coach.
