Not a huge fan of him when he was at Georgia but as pitiful as our secondary was last year I bet he could help

From what I know, he's been pretty successful as a position coach, but he wasn't the greatest as a defensive coordinator.

  • Butch Jones: "We will put together the best football staff in the country, not just the Southeastern Conference." (From Wes' PC updates)

If the OP's thoughts are correct, with the exception of 2 position coaches, the "best football staff in the country" has been in Cincy all of this time. If this is what Coach Jones thinks will earn him success in the SEC, and he backs it up with wins, more power to him.

    Just win!

If the staff lines up this way....would it be a logical analysis to say this: Being able to recruit better talent at UT than UC and utilizing the same basic staff with the few exceptions, would or could have better success here? If you were to take into consideration the talent he has had to work with in UC, with alot of success, and basically put it on "steroids" with 4* and 5* recriuts that fit his scheme? I am sure there will be "tweeks" along the way, but seems to me, tho not a powerhouse lineup of coaches, they have seen consistent success with the hub of this staff. And any coach with any abilities at all, always looks and gets better when they have great talent to coach....figuretlively speaking of course. Just wondering if this makes any sense? tennesseekoolaid

  • JMO, but I am skeptical that the best assistants in the country have been at Cincinnati the past few years. We shall see.

Jones was 18-15 outside the MAC and Big East which I will be honest with you scares me. If you watch the video of his first day on the job Jones is in love with the fact he won 4 championships in the MAC and Big East

No, but I don't blame you or anybody else trying to find the glass half full. If recruiting doesn't work out Jones seems like he's driven to succed so I suspect he'll make changes.

But....lol.....Dooley had a great big GOOSEEGG of championships in his belt before UT. His success followed him. Meaning, he was a loser as a HC. Jones is working off of a winning background, and history as a HC. Not saying he is automatically going to do the same at this level, but that speaks volumes. Winning is winning no matter what conference you are in. The better the conference, the better access to the best talent. Anyhow, I like CBJ's enthusiasm, energy and drive. If he can back it up on the field, he may be best thing to happen to UT since the Fulmer glory days! twocents

I just hope, after several years on the Hill, as he is being introduced as an NFL coach that he can brag about his numerous SEC Championships and a National Championship. Hope he will leave Tennessee's new Head Coach Jay Graham a solid foundation in the 2020's!

But you have to consider the fact that the teams he was coaching had MAC and Big East talent not UT talent. He won the conferences that he was competing in. That's all he could do.

And if he can continue winning Conference Championships, just as he has done on previous stops, I think we will all be happy! +1 biggrin

Very unlikely he wins the SEC with the staff listed above. I think we can all agree on that.

  • Is there a staff in the SEC with no African American's on their defensive side of the ball? That would be my major concern.

As someone who was glad to see ole Wille at the Barn, he is a mistake. You will give up 10 yard curls till you are sick. Jancek was maligned as a recruiter in the SEC. He refused to recruit AJ Johnson to UGA very much despite his obvious talent. Oh and we recruited Chase Vasser before Jarvis Jones out of high school. Y'all can do and deserve better than this. Maybe Jancek has improved as a recruiter, but if not, good luck. He will be a liability.

That staff will get hammered on the recruiting trail in the SEC.

I have to agree with this. With the exception of Graham, these names inspire no confidence at all with me. CBJ said he would leave no stone unturned in assembling the best staff in the country. At this particular moment, that statement looks like press conference fluff to me. Waiting to see the actual hires, but I am NOT encouraged so far.
