Would you rather...

  • Have had Lane Kiffin stay and get our top 5 classes, etc. and possible probation or be where we are now with the future of Butch Jones?

    Help me with an argument.

  • I am taking Butch Jones on this one. As you can see currently with Lane, he can get all the talent in the world and he isn't winning anything at SC. Then, you add much harsher sanctions on top of that, so we are stuck again... as of now, Butch has his work cut out for him, but the man has won everywhere he has gone. He gives us a much better shot that Lane would have.

  • gotta want butch!!! lane was well lame! was a great recruiter and could manipulate the media to his liking but couldnt coach very well!! think we are where we need to be with butch and he will give his all for tennessee today!

    I go with bUTch and keep our program out of the negative spotlight!!!

  • Same here. I think Lane would have won us more games and saved some embarrassment ON the field the last couple of years, but off the field would have been terrible IMO. I hate that we've been a doormat and still don't know for sure where we're headed, but I "think" Butch can get it done.

  • Butch, no brainer. I think he will be a great recruiter (+ staff) and prove to be a good Xs & Os coach. Kiffin just isn't a very good coach.

    Kind of a loaded question in my opinion.

    First, I thought Fulmer deserved another year. He should've had the opportunity to rectify the so-called Clawfense and was only 1 year removed from nearly winning the SEC. I think as time as went on, more fans have started to believe this too.

    That said, I think Lane Kiffin should have never been hired because he did not have any real resume to prove that he would succeed, all he did was interview well and blow smoke up Hamilton's behind. At the time, I was pulling for Brian Kelly. I think our football program wouldn't have endured the misery and BS that it wouldve went through since 2008 had we hired Kelly.

    In 2010, after the mattress burning event that Kiffin left our fans in, I thought we should've let someone like Kippy Brown or Chaney right the ship (like Ohio St did with Luke Fickel) and then we would've had a year to find our guy, not 5 days.

    With all of that now said, I love Butch Jones after getting the opportunity to see and briefly speak with him last week. I am excited about his future here and I feel that he was qualified for this position, particularly when you factor in the current state of our program (under .500 as a program since the beginning of the 2008 Season). Kiffin & Dooley had never won a conference championship, divisional championship, etc. as a HEAD Coach. Butch has won an outright or tied for a Conference Championship 4 times. I think Butch deserved this job and we deserve him as our coach!

    well said,butch is still young enough to plant his roots here and i think he has some growing to go

    but he has won and is a proven winner regardless of the conf,something dooley and kiffin liked>>appreciative of getting a chance to coach at tenn,neither 1 took advantige of this great
    school,kiffin might not even make it to spring,the way its starting to sound,
    i wonder if he still will call plays again this year?
    dooley has the right hair for espn he will make a good 1 on gameday with espn,wouldnt it be something
    we upset bama,florida ,or maybe the dawgs this year and dooley work our game?

    Well, I like what CBJ has done so far and I'll support him fully until he proves otherwise! Go Big Orange!

    BuTch for sure. I think we're now at the light at the end of this long painful tunnel. If we still had Kiffen we'd be just entering it.

  • Cali Kiffin was big hairy mole on the face of Tennessee footbal.......Everybody noticed us ...Even the NCAA...You have to admit at times it was exciteing and down right fun! The fact is he was not a coach,he was a very good salesmen. Nuf on that...
    Dooley is a good man at heart,he had all great intentions but he just was in wayyyy over his head! His formula for bulding a powerhouse team was all wrong.I appreciate and respect all the good things he did for us.In ten years he may have it all figured out...Best of luck to him!
    Now on to brother Butch.The things i like at the begining of this era ( notice i didnt say ongoing saga) are that for one the man oozes im a football coach! He is a winning coach no matter where he goes.Butch seems to be a builder of men and set the best example for the minds he teaches.The thing that sticks out to me the most is that most of his healthy staff have been together for a long time (and won together) so that the normal time period spent learning and meshing with one another can spend that time on the TEAM!!
    In my opinion this is a great advantage.
    Im like most of you the proof is in the puddin and i like our chances this time.
