This is a silly post, but here goes:
I was born in Tennessee, so it was only natural for me to be a UT fan. I am a pastor in a northern suburb of Atlanta, and my office at the church is loaded with UT memorabilia that I have collected throughout my life. It is the only thing that keeps me sane while surrounded by tall of these Dawg fans.
My wife, on the other hand, was born in Buffalo and was raised in NJ, so she had never before experienced college football...SEC-style. She has put up with my love for all things UT, even if she hasn't quite understood it. In fact, early on in our relationship she apologized to her roommate (a UF fan) after we had a good natured back-and-forth about our respective teams. Her friend (now our friend) laughed and said, "Welcome to SEC football!" The seeds of fanaticism were planted.
When I was given tix to the NC State game at the Dome, she gladly came with me, eager to see what it was all about. She took in her first big-boy football event and seemed to have a good time. Tonight, though, she came into the living room after the game and asked me one of the most important questions of our almost 7 year marriage:
How did WE do?
My wife has slowly but surely become a Vols fan, and she now sees UT as her team, as evidenced in the "we" statement she made. I know this is relatively minor, but it made my night (in spite of the loss). She has officially drank the
