This series is reminding me just how many Volunteers with talent redshirted this season. What a great thing. Next season we will have a good number of RF's contributing--guys who have learned the ways of practice and college life and are ready to get on the field! Depth is a good thing.
Hopefully, CBJ and staff can stock the cupboards this year with top 15!

I have really been enjoying this segment as well. As much vitriol as there is for Dooley and his recruiting on this board (and others have more then here), it is amazing how much talent we have, and how much the depth has improved.
I personally think that Dooley did exactly what I would have hoped he would have done. Sure, the last couple years was tough, but he really did give us a good base to build from. His tweet about the bamboo taking so long to grow was spot on, as I think we are in a good position to start winning more and more games as we go. Butch is walking into a MUCH better position than Dooley did. I really hope that Dooley gets another job somewhere and is successful. Maybe he is better off at AD then as a coach.
GBO!!!

No question Dooley did a lot to re-stock the cubbard -- but you could see that in how many of the talented guys we brought in last year (and in some cases the year before) who never played. It wasn't because they weren't good. It's because we (finally!) had talented enough Jr's & Sr's that the incoming Fr didn't displace them immediately on the field.
I don't think Dooley got fired because of his recruiting -- though his recruiting was weaker than most all teams in the SEC. I think Dooley was fired because of the porous defense because of the 3-4 transition (or Sunseri's coaching or talent in areas required for the 3-4 -- or something). I really believe had we kept Wilcox one more year, Dooley's 2012 squad would have gone 8-4 or 9-3 or better, and he'd still be here. Wilcox had the #25 defense in Div I in 2011 with less talent on the field and a harder schedule (ie LSU, Ark when they were good) than Sunseri had in 2012. I think Dooley was trying to do the right thing for UT long-term in going to the 3-4, but it was a bridge too far and it cost him his job.
