Let’s take inventory on Tennessee’s Class of 2012 after one season. And let’s continue with a look at safety LaDarrell McNeil.

  • I know we lost alot of games this year but I dont think Troy was one of them. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe my mind just will not let me believe we lost that one

  • Did you mean to say " a McNeil-Randolph combination" in the last paragraph? If so, I agree.

  • Let's hope we get Vonn Bell to add even more competition... Byron Moore has good instincts but often takes terrible angles and isn't athletic enough. McNeil is also a so so athlete. We need better athletes in the back end. I think Vonn Bell would start at safety or play nickel day 1.

I think Wes meant to say a game the defense lost to Troy.

  • Improve top end speed and ball skills? Aren't those the top two things one needs to play safety at this level? I love it when a safety brings a monster hit but I love it more when they swoop in outta nowhere and break up or intercept a pass a la Deion grant, Eric berry, dale carter and janzen Jackson. Berry and Jackson would lay the wood to ya but grant and carter proved that you don't have to be a big hitter to be a great safety. Neither Randolph or McNeil have particularly impressed me so far. Maybe experience will help but the great safeties seem to have something you can't coach.

  • McNeil is a hitter for sure. Hope he develops his open field coverage skills. I don't think he could ever be a cover guy, but he could stand to hawk a little better. I have full confidence in his ability to stop RB's. The fact that we have Moore, McNeil, and Randolph could intimidate some recruits. I hope Bell sees it as an opportunity. Would love to land Bell. And...we need CB's, several really fast ones who can cover on an island.
