  • I was talking with a friend about this and was curious what others thought. I am a fan of Bray and really believe he could have a huge senior year with the right coach but would you rather have the new coach start with a fresh QB from day 1 or Bray for one more year?

    welcome and really good question.

It depends on which coach we get. If we get Gruden, then yes, I'd like to see what he could do with Bray. But if we get Charlie Strong (defensive minded), I'd like to see a fresh start.

  • I think the Vols are in excellent shape QB wise with Worley and Peterman. That said, I would really love to see Bray come back. With an improved defense and another year to mature I think he could finally start winning SEC games.

  • I would absolutely love to see bray come back. I believe that he gives us the best chance to win and, with a solid D (or even an upgraded D), he wouldn't feel all the pressure to force the ball.

However, IF he does leave, then i do feel OK with what we have. I'm not too concerned with who's coaching unless it comes to somebody that runs a QB-run heavy offense

  • I hope Bray moves on to the NFL and is very successful there.

I don't think he is a closer or that he has the competitive drive to lead his team to wins. I got blasted for this in the preseason, but you can see it in the orange & white games and it carries over to the season, he just isn't competitive enough for me. I know the D was bad, but until the Troy game we were 0-16 on drives in the 4th quarter that would have tied or given us the lead.

  • Good luck to him. I want to see Worley or peterman.

There's been a lot of people that hvae been critical of Bray over the past 2 or 3 weeks, but come on. You can't lay all the blame on him. How many catches were dropped, how many routes were ran the wrong way, how many times could the WR's not get open, how much of it was play calling? I know he's the QB and it starts with him, but he's been a fantastic QB for the vast majority of the year.

I tend to agree. He is terribly exciting and talented, but seems to lack that extra level of confidence with the game on the line.
If someone can only moderately improve our defense, I think we will be fine if he decides to leave. With our O-Line and 2 seasoned tailbacks we should be able to hold a lead if our defense can move from 110th to say......in the top 30. We may not be ultra-talented on D, but I think running the right scheme for the guys we have that a top 30 D is possible. Our D-guys are SEC caliber and we will have two erasers next year at safety. So, although i like our dynamic passing attack, I don't think it is necessary to have it for us to be successful next year.

  • I'm undecided on this one. If he stays great but part of me thinks that Worley or Peterman may be a good change for the team

  • I'd like to see Bray turn his attitude around but I think I'm ready to see Worley & Peterman

It's not about the numbers, it's about his mental game. How good would Bray have been if he'd had a good head on his shoulders? The pouty stuff on the sidelines, what appeared to be him quitting on his team at KY last year and Vandy this year. The lack of mental toughness, his immaturity, lack of leadership, lack of determination and will to win are real issues. I don't care if he is a young guy, thousands of young guys before him have lead their teams quite well. Bray could have been one of the best QBs ever.

Great question, welcome to the board. I would like to see bray return for his senior season. I believe we have a great QB in Worley but based on his preformance in the vandy game, I am not sure Worley is ready to be the starter. IMO, when comparing QBs the chief question is "who gives the your team the best chance for success?" There is little doubt in my mind that Bray gives TN it's best opportunity to win games.

  • I think Tyler Bray is Jeff George reincarnated. I think he has a pro arm and a middle school attitude. He'll be a coach killer, as Don Shula termed them, unless he can change his brain. Additionally, I think his footwork and mechanics are inconsistent which lead to many of he poor throws. I hope he leaves and Hunter and Paterson stay.

I have been saying this about Bray since the O&W game. It is obviously not all his fault, but in that 0-16 he also has 4 or 5 TO's.
I can't think of an "elite QB" that has been that unsuccessful in closing out games. Now as a pocket passer, he can't take games over with his feet so certainly part of the failure comes from drops, but 0-16 and to's 25% of the time speaks for itself.

He is obviously tremendously talented and can make every throw, but that is not the Bray you get in the 4th quarter of close games.

i'm not saying he doesn't need to toughen up, i'm just saying you can't lay all the 4th QTR troubles at his feet
