Your opinions on QB target, John Franklin

  • All I know is that he is a 2*, and his offer list is Samford, GA State and the sort and then FSU.

Now, he does have speed, not doubt about that. But, don't you find it odd that he is being offered by NO big D1 schools at all except FSU and, potentially, Tennessee.

Did every other big school and every analyst just whiff on him or are FSU and UT reaching big time?

Then, you have Woullard who won the big QB competition WITH HIS ARM in addition to being a dual threat -- because of a questionable knee injury everyone but UK has been scared off. How does this make sense?

Finally, if we are going to "reach" with someone -- dangit, let's reach with Charlie High. All he does...is win.

    I'd welcome yall's comments.

I would not want Charlie High. No offense to the kid but he is not D1 material. To short (5'11"), too small to take hits, and his arm is not strong. He is an accurate passer but he does not have a strong arm at all which would limit his throwing to only one side of the field depending on what hash we were on.

Now onto Woullard or Franklin. Franklin can flat out fly! Woullard would be the better commit from where I am sitting but I'm not getting the big bucks so I will succeed to Butch, Jake and the rest of the staff.

  • Im from miami i seen alex collins and john franklin since they go to the same school and i can say nobody whiffed on him he really isn't a good player the fsu offer was to help their chances with alex collins and thats really all unless your staff has a great idea on how to make him look good to me he will not be worth the scholarship

  • I wouldn't mind taking Franklin as an ath. I just don't know why the staff is trying to bring in another qb with so many other needs out there. I'm trying to trust Coach Jones, but he seems to be putting too many apples on the offensive side of the ball in a conference that's known for defense.

That is true OA. Didn't he say he needed 15 scholarships at offensive line and like 12 at wide receiver in his offense? With 27 scholarships at only 6 positions that is a ton that will be distributed on offense. His style has worked at two seperate stops so heres to hoping we can be his third. He does seem to have a defensive staff that has all had SEC experience and will know what we need for the defensive side of the ball as well, minus Stripling and he coached in the Big Ten all his life, so I hope they knwo what they need as well!

That's the only thing concerning me. He's going to find out the hard way you need 15 defensive lineman as badly as need 15 offensive lineman for this league. I'm not saying he's wrong, but I'm not totally bought into what he's thinking right now either.

I think the numbers make it look worse than it actually is. I mean you have to have 5-8 lineman a year at least to get through a season and thats half of that number and then you have a long snapper, a few freshman and your almost at that number. Its not like they all have to be from the same class. With the WR talk Jones is going to play 3 to 5 wide at a time. So you sprinkle in a few per class and you get close. Thats probably including TE as well. We have more than both of those numbers on the roster right now.

  • All the armchair coaches that know more about recruiting, talent, and coaching than the guys that have done this successfully for a living......for years I might add, crack me up!!! I get at least a laugh a day from so many of these posts.

Yeah I agree. Surely with all the SEC coaching experience on the defensive side they are telling him "hey, we need players here and here too".

Woody the roster we ended the season with had more than that so its not a huge statement IMO

Oh was the 12 counting TE also? I thought it was strictly WR and if so we have a lot less than the number he wants. I figured we were under 15 linemen as well since we didn't take any last year. We should have signed one or two for the lone reason we will lose our whole offensive line after the coming year. Never made since why we didn't take any last year.

I am just going by the roster. I would assume he meant TE as well but thats my words not his.
