govols247 Fantasy Football League

  • As promised, we're getting ready to start up the govols247 Fantasy Football League(s). We still have a few details to determine — most importantly, how many people are going to be in the league, how many leagues we will be having and when the draft will be — but here's the deal for now:

    After seeing the way registration went back in the spring for our first fantasy baseball league, I think the best thing to do is for everyone who's interested in joining the league to post in this thread. For those who post in this thread over the next few days, I will be sending you private messages over the next several days — no later than early next week — with a link and instructions on how to join the league. Considering the amount of interest that has been expressed, I think the fairest way to do it is not to allow it to be a free-for-all, where only the people who are on the board at the time I post the league ID and password are able to get into the league. That's why we're going to try it this way.

    Everyone who gets an invitation to the league will have 48 hours to sign up for the league. Any unfilled spots after those 48 hours or so have passed will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

    We primarily want owners who are (a) going to be very active in the league, making frequent pickups and checking their lineups every week, and (b) going to discuss the league here on the board, so if you've never played in a fantasy football league or don't know how often you'd check it, it's probably best if you didn't sign up. We want the league(s) to be really good and really competitive.

    I mentioned this earlier, but we will be using Yahoo! again as the host site for the league. I know there are some people on here who prefer other sites, but we can't make everyone happy. Yahoo! isn't perfect as a site, but its fantasy sports services are very good and easy to use, so that's where we will have it. If you don't have a Yahoo! ID, you'll need to sign up for one before you're able to register.

    I think that covers just about everything, but if you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to send me a PM or post in this thread. As always, Kevin, Wes and I — well, at least Wes and I; I haven't confirmed with Kevin that he will be playing — plan to participate in the league, so you'll have to get past us if you want to win.

    Without further ado, feel free to post in this thread if you want to play in the league this year. You'll need to register for the league within the next five or six days, so if you post in this thread, keep an eye on your private-messages inbox — you know, the thing labeled "Inbox" at the top of the site — over the next few days for instructions on how to join the league.

    OK, it seems pretty obvious by now that we're going to have enough interest for two leagues. Everyone should feel free to continue posting that you want to join the league, but know that, once we get past the first page or so of this thread, there's not going to be any guarantee that those who post will get a spot in either league.

    The only question at this point is probably how many teams will be in each league. Right now, I'm leaning toward 14 for a couple of reasons, one of which is how the scheduling would be done in a 14-team league — everyone would play each team once.

    I'm open to the idea of a 16-team league, too, but we can take a closer look at that once we know how many potential owners we have.
