  • Loving this series Wes. I just hope that #2 and #1 isn't Hunter and Bray, respectively. That would be a little to easy and obvious. Surprise me.

  • I'd like to see what he can do without distraction. He has scary potential.

  • He is a wonderful player but we have 3 other W/R that are just as good if not better. Go Big Orange

Totally agree, and I would argue that Rogers has a good case for #2 on this list, ahead of Hunter. A full-strength Hunter is probably a better overall receiver, but the "bad side" that Wes talks about makes it so much more important that he keeps it all together this year. We've seen what a negative impact his attitude can have on this team, and if that starts to come back this year, we could be in trouble. Plus, for all the crap he gets about being the #2 receiver on his own team, there are things he does better than Hunter. IMO, Hunter has the edge if you have to pick one that is best, but they each make each other a better player when they are on the field at the same time. Hunter is a better deep threat and can out run/jump anyone on the field, but Rogers is a more physical player and can fight for balls and knock a DB on his back if he needs to. So excited to have Hunter back, but I think a by product of him coming back is that Rogers is getting a little undervalued by fans at the moment.

Good post and I agree with a lot of it. If you could remove all the immaturity displayed by Rogers I don't think anyone would look at him as a #2 receiver. I think we would(and do) have 2 #1 receivers. Truly this tandem could both put up 1000+ yds this season. I hope this IS the year that Rogers goes from all SEC to All American. We have a few players that could earn that status this year if they play to their potential. Great stuff Wes. GO VOLS!

BUTCH IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. GO VOLS!

  • I'm not sure I'll ever forget the imagery of Rogers catching that TD between the two defenders and getting his helmet knocked off. His attitude and swagger is contagious! I just hope he keeps it on the right side of the fence!!

  • Rogers was rated higher than Hunter out of high school, correct?

I'm thinking it has to be Hunter and Bray? If they perform they way the did the 1st 2 games of last year then this season has a chance to be special. However I think the argument could be made of Rogers being ahead of Hunter in terms of importance?

  • I recall Rogers being a 5* from rivals and Hunter a 4*

Depends on the rankings you're looking at. We had Hunter ranked a few spots higher.

  • I am so excited about Rogers heading into this year. He seems to be completely focused on getting to the NFL, and I think he understands that the biggest flags against him are character and speed.

He seems to have dedicated himself physically to cutting weight and eliminating the speed concern, and by showing the mental focus to do that I think the other stuff will take care of itself.

In terms of the debate of 1, 2, or 3, I think a pretty strong argument can be made for him being 1. 3 QB's last year, no other quality receivers around him, and he still put up All-SEC numbers. I think Hunter is great but I am not sure he would have put up the same numbers Rogers did if Rogers had gone down.

  • I think we could argue all day who is a better receiver but fact of the matter is if they both play to their potential this season could be very exciting. If anyone could contain them then Patterson and Rivera could have huge games. Can't wait til season is here. GO VOLS

  • I dnt think you can really compare hunter and rogers because to me there two different style receivers rogers is tough nose over the middle type hunter is a speed outside deep threat which to me makes the both #1 on our team and also in the second and both very important to our team

I think the one thing you are forgetting is that Wes has yet to mention a RB on this list and I would say that except for Bray, the RB postion will be BY FAR the most important position for us this year. We have to do better than 116th. Now, which RB would Wes choose? That's up for debate being that we don't even have a clear cut starter. If I were Wes, my #2 spot on this list would be the RB position in general. If I had to choose, I would say Neal would be it because he has more experience, better SEC size, and a lot more versatility after playing receiver for a year.
