  • this is definitely the question mark on the team that scares me mostprayif we can't lock down the corners, this new high pressure defense is gonna get burned - i do like the defensive concept, but this is a bad spot to be unsure about

  • Good stuff Wes. Loving this series. Lots of talented players in the mix for playing time. And it doesn't sound like any of them are too shabby. But we do need a couple of them to show out and prove they belong. I think Bonner is the sleeper and may be the starter before the end of the year. GO VOLS!

  • The first two camp battles made me feel more optimistic about the positions. This one....not so much. Lanier's ineligibility may have been more important than I had allowed myself to realize.

Yep. I think a lot of people undersold that one, especially with how well he fit in UT's system.

I agree, especially knowing there is a learning curve installing a 3-4, as evidenced by teams improving in the second year. But I believe our ability to put up big numbers on offense will cover growing pain mistakes made by our defense. It's gonna be an exciting year.

  • Question.... Does this intelligibility burn a year for Lanier? Will he still be a junior next year or will he be a senior and this be a wasted year? Also, does he still get to workout and be around the facilities and coaches, or is he completely out for a year like Sean Payton?

  • I think coleman will emerge as good corners coleman was a freshman and defended hunter better than anyone I seen him play against I believe our corners and secondary all together will surprise all of us teague is a senior and will play like on also I believe some people are sell some of this guys just a little short

Lanier already has burned his redshirt — he did that at junior college — so, yes, he will lose a year. Once a player's five-year clock starts, it doesn't stop.

  • I think it will be interesting to see how well Teague moves around after getting over the turf toe. You could really notice how he had lost a step with the injury. I think there are going to be some growing pains this year, but I do foresee one or two players stepping up. Should be fun to watch.

  • Sounds like Gordon would be a good fit for the STAR position. He's got the muscle to pop people in run support. He's "mean as a rattlesnake and able to make big plays". He's fast and athletic. From what I've heard about the position, it's a lot of "freelance" work, which translates to "Go out there and make a play, kid", which would suit his lack of discipline. So if I'm thinking about that position, a guy that can bench twice his weight, has an attitude and has a knack for making big plays sounds like my guy. Of course this is all talk unless it translates to the field. I'm sure he'll get some reps there during practice. I'll be interested to see who's playing there in a month.

  • Coleman starts but Teague gets some quality time along with Gordon who is more of a Star position.. Bonner will begin to make some noise but he and Coleman will compete on and off for serious playing time next year if they stay away from injuries. JMHO
