  • Okay, I know this is nothing unusual for all of you TN residents but I wanted to share a couple of run ins with other Vol fans here in the heart of ACC country this week. First, at work. I'm an Area Manager at a manufacturing plant in Shelby. We were having an ISO audit by an outside auditor this week. I'm in my office(which I share with 3 other managers on different crews) and my boss pops in with the auditor. He sees the big Power T magnet on my cabinet and walks over and admires it. I inquire if he is a fan and he says he lives in Greenville, TN and is a huge fan. We discussed Tennessee Football for about 15 minutes, including the Lemond Johnson flip while my boss(who is a Clemson fan) just waits patiently. Needless to say the audit went well. Second, at an Ingles gas station in Shelby(for you watauga). I'm pumping gas into my Excursion yesterday, which has a Power T tag on the front and a couple of Power T decals on the back windshield, plus I'm wearing an Orange UT sweatshirt. Someone yells over at me "You heading back to Knoxville for the holidays?" I look around and see a young man in his 20's looking over at me. I told him that I lived here and he said he was from Knoxville but had recently moved to Charlotte and was heading back to TN. We discussed the Vols for a few minutes, shook hands,and exchanged names. He was a good friend of Josh Ward from KNS. Sorry to ramble but it's always great to run into a fellow Vol fan here in NC. GO VOLS!

    P.S. I also threw in a plug for 247 and told him it was well worth the money.

  • Last Saturday night, we had our company Christmas party. It was semi-formal, so while I was wearing a shirt/tie/etc, I did bring my UT hat with me to keep my head from freezing while outside. We went into this one bar, and the bartender is just coming back from break and is wearing a black UT Jacket with the Power T. He sees my hat and gets all excited (since there aren't a lot of UT fans in Anchorage). He goes off and not even three minutes later this guy walks up to me and shows me his UT student ID (recent graduate). He then buys me a drink (double whiskey sour/Jack) just for wearing the hat. The bartender then poured me a double shot of Gentleman Jack at no charge as well. So apparently wearing the Power T is a way to get free liquor in Alaska - who the hell knew?
