I think my comments were taken wrong.. I LOVE insanity.. But at first it is a very tough program.. I know many ppl how puked in the first week... I didn't lose a lot of weight but lost inches and I didn't even diet. I played sports in high school and insanity put me in the best shape I've ever been in. I would do insanity for 2 months before I did p90x for one week, just enjoyed insanity more...

Also, the Cards are about to pay Molina 12.5 mil a year for .250...... HAHAHAHAHA

Uhh ... Yadier Molina hit .305 with 14 home runs last year. He has finished well above .250 each of the last five years. His annual averages since 2007: .275, .304, .293, .262, .305. He's coming off a career year offensively, and he's easily the best all-around catcher in baseball, considering he's won four consecutive Gold Gloves and has been a huge part of the Cardinals' pitching success — along with Dave Duncan, of course — over the past several years.

  • I used to cover Yadier Molina. I like the guy. Great catcher.

But is he REALLY worth $15 million per year?

Posada and V-Mart never made that much.

What will McCann be worth down the road? WHOA!!!

Cardinals sign Yadier Molina to five-year contract worth $75 million | cardinals.com: News

The Cardinals signed catcher Yadier Molina to a five-year contract extension on Thursday. The $75 million deal, which includes a mutual option, could keep the backstop in St. Louis through 2018.

As I just told Wes, who's to say he's not worth $15 million a year? If Joe Mauer is worth $23 million a year — and he's probably not, but that's what he's getting paid — then why isn't Molina, the best catcher in baseball, worth $15 million a year? As I said earlier, he's won four consecutive Gold Gloves and hit .305 with 14 home runs last year. Good luck finding another catcher in baseball capable of doing that. Mauer is the only one, and he's nowhere near as good defensively as Molina.

But the main reason this is a good deal is because I think the Cardinals were willing to pay $1 million to $2 million more per year to keep it a shorter deal. In this case, seven years for, say, $91 million is a worse deal than five years for $75 million. I'm sure Molina's knees will be an issue in a few years, so signing him for no more than five years was a big victory for the Cardinals, in my opinion.

Jon Jay hit .297 with 10 homers. How much is he worth? $13 million?

In real-world dollars, I'd wager that no pro athlete is worth what they're paid. But in NFL/MLB/NBA/etc dollars, they're worth whatever the market (teams) will pay.

If Jay was a catcher who had won four consecutive Gold Gloves and proven himself as the best defensive catcher in baseball, yes, he probably would be. But he's a center fielder who's never been a full-time starter for a whole season.

It's all about how you compare to other players at your position. At catcher, a .305 average and 14 home runs is well above average. And when you combine that with Molina's defense and his ability to manage pitchers and call a great game behind the plate — perhaps his most underrated asset and one of his greatest strengths — he's easily worth at least $13 million a year (in baseball dollars, of course).
