Three Rose Bowls, great winning record, run the ball and defense philosophy. I disagree with you.

He's a run-first coach that likes big players over athletic types. His style doesn't match the players at all. Also, look at how they struggled this year without some of his former coordinators. I think it's poor.

ditto. we should make such an awful hire. All he does is win. Just mashed Nebraska in the face and hung 70 on them. Bielema is a dang good coach. 68-24 as a HC, 37-19 conference record. be careful who you make fun of. Be interesting to compare the record of our hire to Bielema's.

Be careful. When Arky comes to Neyland, you can bet he will have his guys ready and playing physical football. He seems pretty tough and has done a respectable job. I don't think Wisconsin is a recruiting hotbed.

  • BB is a great hire for Arkie. Give a year to adjust to the SEC and that program will take back off. Really enjoyed watching his Wisconsin program the last few years.

I tend to agree. Just don't see this as a good fit.

Did it occur to you that he gets the type of players he does because he can't get the athletic types that go to Michigan and Ohio State? And maybe he adapted his system to fit the type pf players that he had? Yes, he is a power running guy like Saban, Miles, Muschamp, Richt, Spurrier (he abandoned the Fun n Gun years ago) and other successful coaches in the conference. He'll do well at Arkansas. He has demonstrated at Wisconsin that he is very good at finding diamonds in the rough and that will serve him well at Arkansas.

By the way, Tennessee is about to turn into a defense first, power running program also.

His style may not match the Bobby Petrino Arkansas style, but historically Arkansas has always had a huge offensive line that they like to run the football behind. Bielema's style is exactly what Arkansas used to be and always was prior to Petrino. They always played old Southwest Conference smash mouth football.

I agree. I think they made an excellent hire. This guy could easily be the next Saban.

Then again, maybe Charlie Strong will be as well.

  • I thought it was about as good as they could do. They need to play tougher and better D and pound the rock which he seems to do with his teams.

I think Malzahn is a pigeon to continue AUs ways.

I agree on Malzahn. It seems like a futile attempt to regain their one year of past glory. Too bad they can't rehire Cam too.

They could only afford Cam's salary for one year....biggrin

  • I don't question Bielema as a coach. The proof is there he knows what he's doing. My only question is can he recruit the South, and I don't think he can. He was up in arms last off season at the recruiting tactics Urban Meyer was implementing at OSU. At a certain point, coaching only goes so far in the SEC, and you've got to have talent. Can he get that talent to Arkansas to play a bland Big Ten style of football? I guess we'll see.....
