McCullers staying for senior season

Another Tennessee player has gone public with his NFL Draft decision.

Nose tackle Daniel McCullers posted Tuesday night on his Twitter account that he planned to return to Tennessee for his senior season.

UT’s coaches and players will probably be happier with this one, though.

Big nose tackle Daniel McCullers posted Tuesday night on his Twitter account that he would return to school for his senior season.

“To the people who are still wondering if I'm coming the answer is YES. The team ready to put in the work to put UT back on top #VFL #98,” McCullers wrote.

McCullers, a four-star signee from Raleigh, N.C., by way of Georgia Military College, started seven of the Vols’ 12 games last season. And the imposing 6-foot-8, 360-pound player finished a lot better than he started.

Once he worked himself into better shape and adjusted to the Vols’ system, McCullers turned into much more of a solid, every-down player. He had just four tackles in the Vols’ first four games but had 35 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and one sacks in their last eight games.

McCullers is the Vols’ first draft-eligible junior to confirm that he’ll return for his senior season, but fellow defensive lineman Darrington Sentimore is expected to make the same decision. New UT head coach Butch Jones told govols247 last month that “every indication” at that point was that McCullers and Sentimore would return, but that neither had made a final decision at that point.

UT receiver Justin Hunter posted on Twitter last month and then confirmed to govols247 that he would declare for the draft, and multiple sources have said fellow Vols wideout Cordarrelle Patterson is open to the possibility of returning to school but will probably have to turn pro for academic reasons.’s Bruce Feldman reported last month that Vols quarterback Tyler Bray will declare for the draft, but sources in and around Bray and the UT program haven’t confirmed that news.
