Morning update: Where things stand

Louisville coach Charlie Strong.

Tuesday was a day that Tennessee fans had circled on their calendars the minute Dave Hart mentioned it more than two weeks ago during his news conference to announce the firing of Derek Dooley.

Hart indicated that his trip to New York for Tuesday's National Football Foundation ceremonies would be an opportune time to conduct interviews with coaching candidates.

Tuesday has come and gone, and Hart still is looking for his man. Rumors were rampant that Louisville coach Charlie Strong had emerged as the front-runner to be the next UT coach. But almost as quickly as the reports were published, other outlets said it appeared that Strong was likely to stay with the Cardinals.

Other players in the mix for the Tennessee job include Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy, North Carolina coach Larry Fedora and possibly Cincinnati coach Butch Jones.

As we prepare for another crazy day riding the coaching carousel, we'll tell you what we know and what we don't know about these candidates.
